Very little substance,
This review is from: Ghosts of Hollywood: The Show Still Goes on (Paperback)
I must be on a mindless reading binge - if nothing else, it's entertaining to read something rather light. That; however, is about all that I can say about this book - it's entertaining. Overall, I found the book to be poorly written and edited. It's filled with story after story about every famous dead actor/actress to ever appear on the silver screen - some of them (such as none other than Marilyn Monroe) seem to pop up everywhere. It would appear as if Hollywood is haunted by every dead member of the Screen Actors Guild. Trite and banal are the hallmarks of this book. Finally, I'm beginning to see a pattern to the modern genre of "haunted stories" books: to paraphrase an overused term by the author, books of this "ilk" are merely snippets of poorly written stories.

Not your run of the mill Ghost Book,

Ghosts of Hollywood does something other ghost books don't. It gives you new stories. I've been working in Hollywood for years, and have heard (or so I thought) every ghost story imaginable. This has new ones, in spades. This book and other volumes by Marla, are well researched, and well written, and most important - they are interesting.

Brooks, a lifelong scholar of the supernatural, has compiled the ultimate collection of Tinseltown hauntings. It's both referential and readable - sort of like a Zagat Guide to the spookiest places. Well done!

This is a fascinating read - I hated to put it down. It's too bad the spirits do not like to be on camera; perhaps they prefer to be remembered as they were.
