5.0 out of 5 stars "Ghosts" a Haunting album of such great beauty., July 18, 2001
By
stephen sheppard (Emsworth, Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghosts (Audio CD)
I have to say i first stumbled on this album by accident, i don't know what it was but i suppose it was my fascination with the subject that pursuaded me to buy it.

Looking back now i can say buying this album was a major turning point in my life, this was my first New World Records cd, a step into unknown territory and i have not looked back since.

The Album depicts Ghosts throughout the British Isles, i found myself playing it almost non stop at times whilst writing, the mood of the music aiding my mental flow perfectly(Try it if you don't belive me)!

Llewellyn describes so accruately Ghosts from places that i have visited myself, Hinxworth Place(track 8)Knebworth featured in track 6 Jenny Spinner, quite and almost hauntingly capturing the very essence of those places, to the point i actually felt i was there whilst listening. But then again thats the aim of any great composer surely?

The opening track The Piper, enters with wind howling as if being carried by the notes themselves across a barren scottish moor and from then on your lost in the power and enchantment of this amazing album.

I have played this cd many times on my radio programme and i was asked once which track was my favourite, my answer was quite simple"There isn't one, i like them all equally all 51 minutes.and 47 seconds of it"

If you have an interest in Ghosts buy the album. If you love beautiful descriptive music buy this album.

This i feel will one day be regarded as a true masterpiece, Llewellyn has a perfect feel for the subject and indeed has never let me down since.

But one word of warning!

DON'T listen to it in the DARK!!

This review is from: Ghosts (Audio CD)
I first learned about this unique album while shopping at my local New Age shop & it came highly recommened. When I first heard the album I was amazed at how both the album is Haunting & Relaxing. Llewellyn has always been one of my favourite New Age Artists and this album (Ghosts) is at the top of my list. If you have interests in the Paranormal or the unknown in general I highly suggest getting a copy of this album. It is a true masterpiece. P.S. Turn off the lights & Light a few Candles !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghosts - A Mystical Journey to the Spirit Realm, January 2, 2007
This review is from: Ghosts (Audio CD)
The music found in this CD has a mesmerizing ability to transform the listener through the senses...taking them to a place where the spirits haunt, and frail curtains wave in the windless breeze of a cloudy window.

There is the faint outline of a ghostly figure peering out into the distance. What is it they see? A lighthouse standing forgotten...and yet, in the depths of night before the dawn, any onlooker may catch a glimpse of a light passing through the stairwell.....but look again....and it has disappeared.

"Ghosts" is a passage to a forgotten realm...certain to make you wonder what it was you felt touch your arm...reach for your hand....breathe ever-so-lightly on the nape of your neck...and call to you on the whisp of wind in the haunting distance of the imagined...or was it real? That is the secret that each listener must decide, for nothing convinces the mind more than a brief encounter with the spirit realm.

I bought the MP3 for my iPod shuffle. The tracks are eerie and sentimental, with a melodic smoothness. Excellent background music for reading horror or mystery novels; some of the tracks give you that cold-breeze feeling on the back of your neck.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suitably haunting, but lovely and relaxing as well!, October 1, 2006
This review is from: Ghosts (Audio CD)
Don't be frightened--this isn't scary music that thumps and screams in the darkness. Rather, these wistful, elegant, gently mysterious selections reflect Llewellyn's background as a composer of New Age relaxation music, and were inspired by eight traditional ghost stories from around Great Britain: The Piper, Lady Hoby, The Hooded Maiden, The White Lady, Borley Refectory, Jenny Spinner, Babes in the Woods and Hinxworth Place. The music of "Ghosts" is primarily instrumental with haunting, echoing synthesizer atmospheres and some nature sounds in the background. The vocals by singer Juliana are done in the vocalise style--wordless, floating and soaring. Llewellyn is credited with playing most of the multitude of keyboard, stringed, wind and percussion instruments in these lush, multi-tracked pieces, but Paul Brennan also contributes his talents on Uillean pipes and flute. Helpfully included in the liner notes are bibliographic suggestions relating to the ghost stories: "The A-Z of British Ghosts" by Peter Underwood and "The Good Ghost Guide" by John Brooks. Other recordings Llewellyn, inspired by various facets of Celtic legend and Druidic lore, are Celtic Legend, Moonlore and Mysts of Avalon. Try also the Celtic harp music of Calverly.

4.0 out of 5 stars A coincidence? You decide., April 7, 2009

Upon receiving this CD (having little prior knowledge of its creator; and having no real experience with "ghost" music) I listened to the music and thought, "Interesting, but not really special. Nothing of great relevance here."
Like all humans I know I dream but I rarely if ever remember my dreams.
During the night after I had listened to the CD, I was subject to(victim of?) the most intense, frightening nightmare I can recall.
Coincidence? You decide.
P.S. I have not listened to the music again.
