Warning!,

This is an incredible album, a melodic death/doom masterpeice and if you enjoyed the first one, "Ghosts of Loss" will floor you. This band is truly leading the way of modern Doom with (in my eyes) few contemporaries, Draconian and Novembers Doom being the exceptions.
I only have one complaint, under "Product Details" Amazon has listed this as containing TWO discs, and anyone who has done their research should know that the second disc for "Ghosts of Loss" is a Bonus DVD featuring some very tasty extra's and music vid's. Even my order invoice that arrived with the package listed it with " (+ Bonus Dvd) " My order did not include this bonus DVD, it was the regular Jewel Case with just the audio CD. I highly suspect that since it was a rather limited edition this "double disc" version is no longer available, so those of you hoping for the DVD order at your own risk, don't expect it and you won't have the slightest bit of disappointment. I'm over it now (more or less) and the music more than makes up for it.....if only I had that blasted DVD!...........

While S.T.S.'s debut album was an impressive release to say the least, their second album - Ghosts of Loss, falls short. While this is not an entirely bad album ( the first two tracks are pretty solid, and there are a couple other decent tracks ) the overall theme of the tracks on this cd rings 'filler' to these ears. The second half of the cd alone... the songs just seem to blend together and linger on making the task of listening to this disc in its entirety a challenging one. Three and a half stars seems a more fitting rating for this cd.

The Giant, Descending Winters and The Ship are great songs. If you're buying this album for those songs like I did, you shouldn't be disappointed. If you hoped to get a couple other good songs out of it, you're going to be very disappointed. This is by far STS's worst album. From beginning to end The Morning Never Came is great, Hope is alright and New Moon is fantastic but I really can't recommend this album to anyone. I only even give it 2 stars because I love The Ship so much.

What's going on with this guys and their reviews? This album it's much better than "The Morning Never Came"! I'm not saying that their first album ain't good. I like it alot but this album "Ghosts of Loss" I think it goes beyond. Just we have to listen a bit more because sometimes it takes a while 4 you to like it. I'm just hoping not to be disappointed with their new album: "Plague of Butterflies" let's hope not.

2.5 stars. Almost all I read about this release was either negative or average, at best. I thought, "How bad could it possibly be?" Their debut album, "The Morning Never Came", is amazing Doom Metal of the highest quality. But "Ghosts of Loss" lacks so many of the merits of the first album that it borders on embarassing. There are Doom Metal riffs that caught my ear only to fade into sustained chords with keyboard backwash that sounds like every other wanna-be Doom Metal band could produce. This was disheartening to say the least. For that matter, the few moments on this release that are decent are transitory, as the songs themselves feel unfinished. Perhaps they were riding the wave of their successful first album and were pressured into releasing a sophomore album too soon, or maybe they just had those few great ideas for the initial release in them. Hopefully not. I've heard some good reviews for their third album, entitled "Hope", which I find entirely appropriate under the circumstances. "Ghosts of Loss" isn't completely terrible, but I won't be returning to this album when I have so much more to listen to that is simply better than what is here. In fact, most of the songs here are just plain boring. Skip this one altogether.

One of the best doom bands,

What a band.... The really combine doom metal with some death metal riffs. The vocals are great. Some songs wrap you in sadness and melancholy....

not as good,
This review is from: Ghosts of Loss (Audio CD)
The morning never came was great. I PROBABLY HAD TOO HIGH OF EXPECTATIONS, but this CD does not measure up. I've tried several times to fall in love with this one but it aint happening. The songs are not near as melodic as their previous work, nor as flowing. Everytime a song seems about to reach a melodic peak they spoil it by throwing in a major 7th. Come on keep with the minor keys you can't pull off scale changes like OPETH. Worth a listen but nothing groundbreaking here.
