5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime, November 9, 2007
"Ghosts" by Siobhan Donaghy is simply outstanding, just SUBLIME! It is so rare for me to gush about a particular CD. Usually I will like a few songs or less on a CD, with one, possibly two being really great. With "Ghosts," however, I cherish every song. This CD, like the editorial review says, certainly is ethereal. But it is not a weirded-out, avante-garde, experimental type of music. I don't like that sort of crap. Rather, this is just simply some of the most beautiful, dreamy, lush and fantastic stuff ever! These songs reach for the heavens with feet on the ground. Dreamy and lush yet accessible and totally listenable! Not one song is disapointing. My favarite is "There's A Place." I listen to it over and over. It's a disgrace and shame that this CD and Siobhan Donaghy are not more well-known (at least in the States.) A crying shame! Please girl, get yourself out there! Get your songs on t.v., get in the media-and please make more music!

This is truly the best work Siobhan Donaghy has ever done. If you liked Revolution in Me, you will love this. Outstanding vocals and lyrics. 12 Bar Acid Blues was particularly catchy. There is not a song here that I don't love.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lush Masterpiece : Like an Undiscovered Kate Bush Album, April 7, 2009
Too few people know of "Ghosts", which remains an obscure UK release from a few years ago. Its' voice, Siobhan Donaghy, was an ex-member of a semi-popular British girlgroup, and this was her second solo record. I guess expectations were low considering her rather hit-or-miss profile, but "Ghosts" released to poor chart positions (#117 on the UK album chart, which is horrifyingly low for a new release), and till date has only sold a few thousand copies worldwide. Not many people even know of its' existence.

But this is clearly one of the greatest albums of all time. Especially if you are a listener of Tori Amos and Kate Bush. In fact, the Kate Bush comparisons come hard and fast, specifically because Siobhan unabashedly mimics the artists' song structure and melodies - but never does this sound copied or unoriginal. The Tori Amos comparisons are valid as well - this is quirky pop music, with superb production, reminiscent of Madonna's work on "Ray of Light", production-wise. Musically, its a fascinating amalgamation of the rarer Bjork songs, with a bit of Goldfrapp thrown in for good measure.

And then there are the obscure, almost indecipherable lyrics. Consider these artistic lines from the lead title track:

"Full mug my friends certainly familiar
Ah, hear that glitch say search the orbs
Tree-ann said it his seize the circus
Ram's wool that cause way a cricus
Full mug my friends certainly familiar
Warmy funny Anna say say maluska"

And thats just the first verse. In between, the song stops and the chorus is played backwards, then the song progresses, and the backwards portion loops over the forward, with no decipherable message or intention, yet this is poetry of the highest order (research it online). Its this sort of amazing Victorian creativity that places Siobhan miles ahead of her contemporaries, and this album is a quaint, very unique piece of music that defies genre (its like chamber-pop with futuristic elements, but all awash in the England of the 1700s).

If those descriptions allure you, this is certainly the album you should be owning. Its absolutely timeless, and every track is like a meaty piece of highland history. Breathtaking.

Five Stars.

This is a superb album from the former Sugababes' singer. The production was excellent, the songs were creatively and extremely amazing and the vocals was showing us that Siobhan Donaghy was indeed the best vocalist that Sugababes band have ever had. If you like the New Age/Pop kinda music then this is the album for you.

Its been a few days since Ive had the album Ghost. I stumbled across Siobhan on you tube all the time. I knew who she was because she was in my fav group Sugababes, but really wasnt interested because she was never my fav sugababe. I never clicked the play button until one day i said what the hell. I click on the video and "Dont Give It Up" started to play. I was not immediately impressed so i aim for the back button, and just then the chorus played. Oh my god!! It was like an angel. A beautiful Angel singing. Almost brought tears to my eyes. I must of played this song a million times that night. I searched the legal and illegal download sites with no luck! Devils! But i found her myspace page which had this song and others streaming but not downloadable. I knew i had to buy the cd and was thankful that it was on Amazon!! I fell in love with all of the songs on her myspace page. My favs from the ghost album;

1. Dont give it up
2. Sometimes
3.Goldfish
4 Halcyon days

I was disappointed that man without friends was not on there. I thought it was on ghost but i guess she did another album before ghost. I just ordered it and cant wait. If the album is any reflection to man with out friends, i know ill love it.

I reccomend this album to any pop fan, any sugababe fan. I describe this CD to be a blend of Madonna's Ray of Light with a lil bit of Enya.
This album will take you on an ethereal plane vacation. I cant really explain it but words like Haunting, Spiritual, Soulful, Uplifting and Hope come to mind when trying to describe Ghost. I get chills when she sings, especially goldfish and Dont give it up. For me, the CD is all about the music, and her voice. The lyrics are hard to understand sometimes, but it's the music that moves you. If you wanna be touched by an Angel. Buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something to talk about...., September 15, 2009
This album is brilliant, simple as that. I was blown away by Siobhan's Ghosts and that's a hard thing to do especially when it comes to female artists and myself.
I got this album only having heard her first single off her debut album, I had heard nothing after that so it was a surprise to see this in the shop waiting to be purchased.

The album itself is etheral pop at best, it sweeps you up in it's imagination and you get stuck there.

Each time I listent to it I find a new favourite track, but still track 5, 12 Bar Acid Blues is my all time favourite, what starts as a kind of blusey pop becomes a full on electro clap song that is hard to get out of your head.

Other favourites are Sometimes, another catchy pop song that has a great chorus and some mighty fine hooks.

Medevac is also a great track, dark, moody, mysterious, but I hardly ever play it as I can't never get ;past track 5.

If you like old Kate Bush, Tori Amos when she's feeling like being a pop star, even some Alanis Morissette then get this album, you won't be disapointed, and if you are, whats wrong with you?

This review is from: Ghosts (Audio CD)
If you like the first track, then you will like the whole album. 12 Bar Acid Blues is another classic. Anyways, the thing with this album is that it isn't overwhelming - I listen to it repeatedly in the office and everyone loves the tracks - none of the songs will grind on your nerves - lyrics are catchy - the music bounces all over beautifully - there is enough variety from song to song to make each song memorable... What can I say, it's become a favorite unexpectedly.
