The unique and often turbulent history of St. Augustine, America's oldest city, has spawned more than four hundred years' worth of ghosts. Author Dave Lapham has collected twenty-four stories from St. Augustine's rich oral history into a light yet sometimes hair-raising peek at the spooky side of the Oldest City. St. Augustine has lots to offer travelers with varied interests.
I grew up in Iowa and, after enlisting in the Marines, attended the Naval Academy, returning to the Marine Corps after graduation. I was an infantry officer (2 tours in Vietnam) and retired to Orlando, where I worked in the defense industry before retiring to write full time.
I kind of fell into "ghost" writing--no pun intended--but I have come to love writing ghost stories, true and fiction. The universal theme of my writing is that everyone, virtually everyone, has experiences which they cannot explain. I think that's pretty cool. So far, I've done GHOSTS OF ST. AUGUSTINE and ANCIENT CITY HAUNTINGS. They've been quite popular, but I'm really excited about my newest one, GHOSTHUNTING FLORIDA, because it covers the whole state from Key West to Pensacola. It was so much fun putting it together. I met some great people (and some pretty crazy ones, too), and I got some awesome stories. In addition to the books, I've also written for "Raconteur," "Fine Print," "Jacksonville," and "St. Augustine" magazines, and have appeared on numerous TV and radio shows, including the television documentaries Haunted Lighthouses and Ghosts--North Florida Legends.
