Book Description

Kendril is a Ghostwalker, a man who is dead to his former life and bound by a solemn vow to seek penance for some mysterious dark sin in his past. When a chance encounter in the forest leads him to inadvertently rescue a woman named Jade, a woman who claims not to remember anything about who she is or what has happened to her, Kendril becomes her reluctant guardian.

But after a gang of ruthless bounty hunters comes after Jade, Kendril finds himself thrown into a deadly game of cat and mouse where one wrong step will be his last. Now he must use every ounce of daring and cunning he has to escape with his life and to protect the woman he is growing to love, a woman with no past.

But can he trust Jade, or will her secrets lead to his undoing?

About the Author

Ben Cassidy lives in Vancouver, WA, with his wife and three children. He pursued graduate studies in history for several years until he decided that reading six scholarly books a week was not challenging enough for him, and so switched to being a stay-at-home dad. He has been writing since he was in third grade, though now he is able to bribe other people to do the illustrating for him. He has the uncanny habit of writing of himself in the third person, and is disturbed by how easily his whole life can be summed up in four sentences. Or even five.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Weekend book May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Great book for a weekend read. Lots of action in this fantasy world full of bandits, swordfighting, bounty hunters, and a mysterious woman. The book was a page turner and I can't wait to read the next installment. I don't normally read fantasy novels, but I enjoyed this book SO much. I love the main character and can't wait to learn more about him as the series continues.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Story. June 13, 2012

[...]I really enjoyed reading this book. The story line was unique and interesting. There were a lot of grammatical errors in the book; however, the errors did not detract too much from the read. Overall, a book that I would recommend to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been so much better April 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book had the potential to be an epic fantasy, but fell way short. While the writing was competent, there was misuse of words ( bemused actually means to be confused or puzzled, NOT amused), overuse of redundant phrases such as retreat back (one can't retreat forward), I could have gotten past all that but for the fact that there is absolutely no world building. Characters exclaim things like "Eru's halls" (I may have gotten that wrong) and you have nothing to connect it to, who is Eru? Is Eru a god? A king? A prophet? This happens throughout the story, and it's a bit like looking at something with your peripheral vision cut off, you never truly connect. There is some token explanation towards then end, but by that point, the reader has drawn their own conclusions. The characters are OK, somewhat humourous, but the baddies are cardboard cutouts. There is tons of action and I kind of liked the overall story, but the absence of a world is frustrating, and for that reason I won't continue the series. If you don't care about a fully fleshed out world where you feel as if you're actually there, then go for it. If you do, then this isn't for you.
