4.0 out of 5 stars Ghoulies 4: for REAL fans only!
"Ghoulies 4" costs over $80 to buy, but if you're a REAL Ghoulies fan, buy it. If you like Ghoulies and own "1", "2" and "3" and are QUITE interested to see "4", don't buy it, rent it. If Ghoulies mean everything to you, save up an buy "4" - it's not the best, but it's damn good!

2.0 out of 5 stars Where are the ghoulies?
This is NOT a ghoulies film. There are NO old ghoulies, just new ghoulies. And those ghoulies have NOTHING to do with the story. This could have been an 1 hour movie without the ghoulies. But still, good story.

Sixth (And last) movie in the boxset. Well, looks like I've saved the best one for last. Ghoulies IV. I originally did a review for this back in like February, but I decided to do a new one. The Ghoulies series is pretty awesome. I know there are some people who don't like them, and that's fine. This happens to be my favorite one in the series. Yeah, I know the actual Ghoulies don't appear and are replaced by 2 guys in costumes, one of them being Tony Cox from Bad Santa. Now, onto the movie.

The movie centers around Jonathan Graves, the main character from the first movie, being played once again, by Peter Liapis, who is now a cop for the LAPD and has put his past of the occult behind him. During the first part of the movie, we encounter Alexandra (Played by the very hot Stacie Randall) communicating with a demon from beyond named Faust, who is the dark side of Jonathan. Faust asks Alexandra for a red jewel and something goes awry, therefore, unleashing the Ghoulies from the beyond.

I think Jim Wynorski did a good job with the directing. And the music by Chuck Cirino is funny as well. (SPOILER AHEAD) At the end of this movie, the Ghoulies say that there will be a Ghoulies IV, Part 2, or Ghoulies V. I still hope that sequel gets made and I especially hope Jim Wynorski returns to direct.

Ghoulies 4 is pretty ghoulish. The ghoulies look very different from the last ghoulies, but there still cool. Theres some nice flash backs, from Ghoulies the first movie. Any fan of the ghoulies movies will enjoy watching Ghoulies 4.

2.0 out of 5 stars About As Good As A Movie Called "Ghoulies IV" Could Be, February 20, 2011
By
This review is from: Ghoulies IV (DVD)
Let me begin by stating that Ghoulies IV is a bad movie. Still, it has some goofy and hilarious moments sprinkled throughout that make it okay viewing for the b-movie fan. What disappointed me was that the original Ghoulies were nowhere to be found in Ghoulies IV, other than in flashbacks. Here we have new Ghoulies, and they are actually good guys. And they talk. Also, I wouldn't consider Ghoulies IV a horror movie or even a horror-comedy like the others in the series. It's a cop action-comedy with some supernatural elements. I swear, it's as if director Jim Wynorski hadn't seen any of the other entries in the Ghoulies series, because this one isn't like any of the others at all. And speaking of Wynorski, there isn't any nudity in Ghoulies IV. That must have been a first for him. After seeing Ghoulies IV, I can understand why this was the last in the series. The others were so bad they were good. This one's so bad, it's...just okay.

When I see mention that this movie is for true fans, it makes me wonder what torment a person should have to endure to be considered worthy of this title. Having been a fan of the prior three ghoulies movies, I didn't think that Ghoulies 4 would rate very much lower on the "likable" scale. Perhaps the budget would change and perhaps the caliber of the already lackluster actors would diminish, but the ghoulies would still be there, right? Wrong! Instead of giving us those pint-sized hellions we've grown to love, the movie instead focuses on the misadventures of two treasure-troll type characters (who, by the way, are as taller than most children) that bumble around and manage one, count them, one, entertaining scene through the entire movie. Why, god, why?
Personally, I didn't care whether the storyline was interesting or not (and it wasn't) because I wanted those cute little miscreants tearing into people instead of these basically good guy (yes, basically good guy) title thieves. What I received from watching this was not an enjoyable experience, but instead was the shaft that managed to devour an hour + of my life.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible and has nothing to do with the series, December 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ghoulies IV (DVD)
I am a fan of the 'Ghoulies' series (especially the second one, which wisely gave up all attempts of being a serious horror film and instead piled on the laughs) but this is by far the weakest entry and has nothing to do with the previous three films.

Typical of 1990s fashion, the setting is moved to an urban setting (one of the ghoulies speaks with stereotypical African-American inner city slang). The beloved little ghoulies of the previous films, however, are gone and in their place are two larger, completely humorless substitutes. They are entirely superfluous and are not central to anything in the movie, which brings back Peter Liapis (the main character in the first 'Ghoulies' movie) as a detective fighting with a female being over a mystical red bauble.

Don't be fooled into thinking this is like the funny, earlier 'Ghoulies' movies and don't waste your time watching this.

This movie is not so bad but there is one hug problem.Where are the old Ghoulies from 1,2,and 3?These new ghoulies are plain stupid. If you are a huge fan of the Ghoulies series buy it but if you not a big fan rent it first.I think that the price is not worth it.
