5.0 out of 5 stars Immortal is dead, long live Horgh!
I have anticipated this cd since I first read about it in Pit magazine last fall. I have anticipated this cd since I first read about it in Pit magazine last fall. I was dismayed to learn of the demise of thr mighty Immortal but looked forward to Grimfist eagerly, and have listened to little else since recieving it. Brutal simply doesn't cover this death metal masterpiece. Primal Agression, From Hell and Back, and the title track all stand out on an album with no weak tracks. If you like Carnal Forge, The Crown, Marduk and of Course Immortal why don't you own this?Of course Horgh is godlike behind the kit but the guitars will rip your face off and the vocals are demonic. THIS ALBUM IS KILLER!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars BRUTAL!!!!!, June 28, 2005
This review is from: Ghouls of Grandeur (Audio CD)
That one word up top can describe this album and I'll say it again: BRUTAL! Norway's Grimfist is one of the heaviest bands out there and you should support them by buying this record. You like thrash? You got it! You like death? You got it! You like a little black metal too? You got it! Every type of metal you can think of is on this record. Musically, this band sounds like a cross between Lamb of God during their Burn the Priest days meets Immortal (btw, their drummer plays on here) with almost Judas Priest-like solos for good measure. This ain't no Korn or Disturbed record folks. This is extreme music for extreme people. The vocalist is pretty impressive. He can from ear-piercing highs to low growls and even lets out some clean power metal vocals ("A World of Wrath"). The guitars are lighting fast and Horgh (Immortal) puts on a drum clinic with his fast footing and devestating blast beats. Every song on here is good, but my favorite is probably "Mosh-Pit Underground" If your fan of real metal, you should pick up this album. If your favorite band is Disturbed, stay away from this release. You might get hurt!

5.0 out of 5 stars You just blew my mind, January 29, 2004

This CD is amazing, pure and simple. I bought it on a whim after I heard the song "Outlined In Black", but let me tell you -- this thing is unbelievable from start to finish. Brutally heavy and thrashy, Ghouls of Grandeur is one of the best metal albums that was released in 2003. Also, if you like this check out "First Round Knockout" by Deride -- its very similar to this.

PS Metal fans -- have a sense of humor and give Fred Dursts Numba One Fann a break. Its a joke.

This is a great Metal album. The instruments are played with such intensity and the vocals are wicked. They use Death vocals as well as Thrash screams. The music is fast, furious and reminds me of early Overkill/Sepulura. The drums are sick and that's because they're done by Horgh from the Mighty Immortal. This is what Metal is all about! Long live Thrash Metal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous name, great album, February 13, 2004

LAMB OF GOD meets old-skool black metal and thrash. That's the best way I can sum this up. Actually, this is really a thrash album first and foremost. There are certainly some fragmented structures on here which remind me of parts of As the Palaces Burn, and plenty of blastbeats which harken back to classic black metal (no wonder, being that the drummer from IMMORTAL is involved), but many of the tracks chug along (at hyperspeed, no less) like good ol' fashioned Bay Area thrash. Great black/death vocals - no screeching, nothing too deep either, and even the odd heavy metal wail (track 3's chorus will definitely pop out at you.) This album is an amazing riff-fest from beginning to end. By the time you get to track 8, you'll be screaming along: GHOOOOUUUUULLLLSSS!!!! of GRANDEUUUUURRRR!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A black/death metal masterpiece!, January 8, 2007

I first heard of this band back in 2003 on Comcast's digital music channel...the metal one...that channel and I were best friends for a long time. Anyways, the first song I heard was "Outlined in Black," and I kept a tab of every song and band that caught my attention, and boy these guys sure did. I was lucky enough to find this album at my local music store...after looking for a few months...I bought it up right away. I was not disappointed and either will you if you decide to buy it as well. This album is pure unadulterated blackened death metal with thrash thrown in for good measure. Any fan of heavy music will love this album. Amazing guitars, amazing vocals, amazing drums, amazing bass, and when you put all these together with crisp clear production, what you've got is one hell of a metal album. This is a good album to drive fast to as well...So pick it up and blast it!

I was incredibly fortunate to find this at my local record store. I've always been a huge Immortal fan and I wanted to see what Horgh was up to, so I decided to purchase this the moment I laid eyes upon it.

This is relentless metal at it's finest. There isn't too much innovation here, but that's not what this project is about. Grimfist is about combining some great talents to create an album as brutal as possible. The sound is so incredibly thick and heavy, you will not believe that there are only people in this band. The vocals are screamed, but in one song there is a line of clean vocals. Don't let the clean vocals turn you off. They aren't bad, and by the time you notice them, they are already gone. The screamed vocals on the other are as brutal as possible. There are some dubs with high pitched screaming and low pitched growling as well, which adds greatly to the brutality of this record. The guitar work is fast. Really fast and really heavy. The drums are incredible. If you've ever heard any of Horgh's work, you'll know what I'm talking about. Fast rolls, double bass, you name it, it's there.

With all of that said, I must now say that if you are looking for a fast, relentless, in-your-face metal album, look no further than Grimfist's "Ghouls Of Grandeur."

5.0 out of 5 stars dark Horse of 2003, December 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Ghouls of Grandeur (Audio CD)
In another bumper year of metal, Norwegian supergroup, Grimfist, have emerged as the dark horse and despite the fact that fellow countrymen and labelmates Zyklon seems to have gained all the attention, Grimfist have arguably released the superior album and perhaps one of the best of 2003.

Featuring former and current members of underground metal extremists: Necrophagia, Immortal and Gorelord. Grimfist deliver a fresh and exciting brand of deadly, old school, Stockholm styled death metal, grim black metal and a healthy dose of thrash and groove. Ghouls of Grandeur is a catchy, heavy and flawlessly written and executed metal album, with a killer production and guitar tone.

Highlights include: Obsession, World of Wrath, No Compromise and Lesser of two evils. Get This!!
