I love all of H.P. Mallory's book series.

This book started off a bit slow, then picked up, but I really did not like the way it ended so abruptly.

It was a good mystery story with touches of humor.

Ghouls Rush In is the first book in a new paranormal mystery/romance series by H.P. Mallory. After reading the publisher's summary, I was prepared for this book to be just the latest in the recent plethora of supernatural-themed romance novels with little substance and a predictable plot. I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised.

This book introduces Peyton Clark, a recent divorcee whose inheritance of a historic home from a distant relative could not have come at a better time. Peyton, looking for a fresh start, moves to New Orleans to restore an Antebellum home and rebuild her self-confidence. It's not long before Peyton meets her gorgeous and charming neighbor, Ryan, who she convinces to oversee the renovations to her home. Sparks fly instantly between the two. However, Peyton soon discovers that she is not the only resident of her new home. Before long, she is involved in a very unusual love triangle between the sexy neighbor and her otherworldly roommate, Drake, the ghost of her dreams. Drake's former life as a turn-of-the-century policemen soon threatens them all. Peyton must discover the frightening truth behind Drake's death more than a century ago or she may never be safe in her new home.

The characters were surprisingly relatable and well written. I found myself invested in what happened to them. The mystery aspect of the story was very interesting and quite a bit scary. Usually villains in these type novels are not overly frightening but I found my heart racing in a few parts. I will say that if there was a weakness in the book it was that the dialogue in the first part of the book seemed a bit stilted. This really seemed to improve in the second part of the book, but that could be partly due to my interest in the plot developments.

I'm not one to write negative reviews, but I was so frustrated that I wasted my time on this book that I had to warn others. I have no idea how this book managed to get published. The story is painfully slow at times, and rushed into nonsense at others. The author spent the majority of the book drawing out the plot, only to abruptly end in the interest of publishing a sequel. But, the worst part was the author's miserable attempt to write a southern accent by dropping the last consonant of every single word. It was so awful and distracting that it would have ruined even a good story, which this was not. Don't waste your time.

Great start to a new series. As a fan of the authors' other series I was in no way disappointed. This had intrigue, mystery and yummy guys just as you'd expect. I love the setting of New Orleans, what could be better than ghosts, voodoo and The Big Easy! There are so many ways for this series to go and it's only the beginning. I can't wait to see more of all of the characters and I really hope to see a lot more of Trina, what a witty, funny, crazy character. She almost steals the show! Anyone who's familiar with this author and read her previous works will in no way be disappointed, she stays true to form and puts out a complete, thorough, fun read.

This series must be read in order. This is the first book.

Peyton has mysteriously inherited a mansion in New Orleans from a dead great aunt she has never even heard of on the day her divorce was final... Sounds like fate! After all she has been oppressed and denigrated by her husband for years and she felt at home in New Orleans as a college student so she throws out her drab wardrobe and buys a sexy new one and packs herself and her new stuff and heads to her new home.

This book was full of quirky fun and snarky goodness! It was fun and funny with plenty of mystery and supernatural hijinks galore! Romance kinda sneaks in even though Peyton is set against it but all is not what it seems! The suspenceful thrill ride seems to end... But does it? I cannot wait to read the next book Once Haunted, Twice Shy (The Peyton Clark Series)!!!

***This series is suitable for adult readers

REVIEW:
The very popular paranormal writer H.P. Mallory has always been on my list of authors to read and finally I was able to step into her exciting paranormal world with Peyton. What’s great about this series is that the lead characters aren’t paranormal, but they are dealing with paranormal situations around them. Such a great change and I’m looking forward to more of Peyton and her ghosts.

Peyton Clark has lived a lie since she married a man who molded her into a model wife. Now divorced and free to be who she use to be and wants to be, she decides to move into her aunt’s estate, which she inherits. The estate needed lots of love and luckily her very handsome neighbor Ryan worked construction for many years, not being able to say no to her, he decided to help rebuild. But what neither of them were expecting was that the house is haunted and by more than one presence. With the help of one spirit, they try to banish the evil that’s haunting Peyton and hopefully rid of it before it becomes too dangerous.

Peyton is a feisty but sweet woman who is ready to be on her own and breath again. Her life in New Orleans is her new beginning but she not prepared for a possible romance and a handsome ghost to stir up her new life. Peyton has a lot to deal with, New Orleans is known for ghost and she has no idea how to handle the dreamy cop ghost Drake who is trying to protect her from an evil spirit. I liked the chemistry and humor between Drake and Peyton, neither knowing how to handle each other. Plus the addition of Ryan who is broken hearted from the loss of his wife still, but he’s opening up more and more to Peyton with each day.

Ryan Kelly has been living with a broken heart for some time, after the loss of his wife during a construction acciden.
