Di Gi Charat: Dejiko's Champion Cup Theatre

I can't really tell if the original Champion Cup was like this. Dejiko has this weird "Yoyoyo" stuff going on, and has this slang talk.
"Yo yo yo peeps! They calls me th' 10-year old hybrid girl wivva kitty ears... But'choo c'n call me Dejiko (nyo)!" ~Dejiko

Rabi~en~Rose has this weird "Like, like" things going on.
"An' like, as a rival, she can't even carry my lunchbox an' junk?" ~Rabi

Puchiko's speech is still the same, sharp cutting remarks.
If you can deal with that sort of speech, the book will be entertaining and amusing. If you can't, you're in for one heck of a doozey. Also, for some reason or another, they spell Dejiko, Digiko. Most people spell Piyoko "Piyoko", but Ironcat spells Piyoko "Pyoko". -Just as a note if it'll bug you or something...

The book is real Di Gi Charat. Many little stories that don't really connect with each other that much. Very short, and comedy directed, which can be either good or not. Also, there's no "Dejiko-chan KAWAIII!!" stuff. Dejiko's a mean spirited girl, and there's no cutesy portrayal of her attitude. Piyoko does appear and make jokes, and Coo, Rik, and Ky also appear. The art goes all out, where Dejiko is deformed over half the time, and most of the jokes are either total hit, or total miss.

This is probably not a good place to start out with Dejiko, as the book'll leave you questioning the sanity of the Dejiko fans. Especially when the poor poor PKO group (Rik, Ky, Coo) dress up in their swimsuits. My eyes now burn.

Overall, a good book for dedicated Dejiko fans, though fans of series that are deep and meaningful are really really out of luck on this series.

Pros: -Amusing at times
-Dejiko is portrayed as what she really is: Mean
-All Koge-Donbo, so no switching art styles
-The general feel of this story is the extreme side of Di Gi Charat, with deformed Dejikos everywhere, and many deformed Rabi~en~Rose's as well.

Cons: -The whole speech things that everyone has going can really grate on nerves
-This book is generally smaller than a regular sized manga, yet its a couple bucks more than a regular manga
-The text keeps changing. Sometimes its near unreadable.

After two other publishing gigs with Viz and Ironcat, the Di Gi Charat manga franchise comes home. Broccoli, the company that also put together the various Di Gi Charat anime outings, has the cat-eared alien princess and her friends out for one set of adventures to another.

To explain a little about the series, it takes place in Akihabara in Japan. Dejiko, the catgirl princess of the planet Di Gi Charat, comes to Earth with her younger sister Puchiko, and a strange balloon creature called Gemma. Dejiko gets a job working at a local video game store called Gamers(which is an actual chain in Japan), although she has a rival in the older bunnygirl clerk, Rabien Rose. Her fights with Rabian usually leads to alot of property damage thanks to Dejiko's laser vision.

Too make things weirder, a group of bad guys from Planet Analogue have come to Earth to capture Dejiko and hold her for ransom to Planet Di Gi Charat. They're called the Black Gema Gema Gang and are lead by the adorable but selfish panda girl Piyoko, who can vomit energy blasts from her mouth. Her three bishounen dogboy helpers, coo, Ky, and Rik, later on show up to assist Piyoko, but for one reason or another, they always manage to bungle their changes at kidnapping Dejiko.

Di Gi Charat Theatre is a pretty goo series to pick up, even if you've never seen any of the prior anime installments. It's cute subtle comedy, and highly recommended!

Dejiko is spelled Dejiko, not DIJIKO - according to the official Japanese site AND Broccoli - who created these great characters. How horrible they must feel that IC has done such a horrible job with this translation - or at least the gangsta style editing! It's horrid to read.

I would rather reccommend other Di Gi Charat books. Even Viz - who can't spell Dejiko (they spell it as Dijiko) has a better than this!

Please please please! There are better translations out there! Try the alternative Di Gi Charat Theater series (Dejiko's Summer Vacation)! I just picked it is soooooo much better!
