...I've never really been a fan of hearing the same one remixed as many times as this one has. On the other hand, it's certainly a tribute to Vandi and her songwriter, Fivos, that they can successfully accomplish what they've done here.

There are a number of Vandi's songs that I like better than this one -- Olo Leipeis, Simera, Ela, To Koritsaki Sou, and Ypofero to name a few (all by Fivos) -- but Geia seems to have become her signature tune through popular acclaim.

3.0 out of 5 stars Jelena Karleusa's version of 'Gia' is 100% better., January 10, 2004

I would totally agree with one of the previous reviews stating that Jelena Karleusa does a much better interpretation of the song 'Gia'. Jelena is certainly not one of the very best performers, but she makes this song come alive and you get this urge to boogie on. Despinas Greek part in the song was good, but when it came to english words, it was stupidly horrific.

Anywho.. soon we will be hearing of Jelena some much more as she sets to release her debut single very soon. www.karleusa.com

Still LOVE YA Despina

Gia for those who do not know is a mega hit in the United States from coast to coast. It has been on the Billboard hits for 9 weeks already and it is the 3rd most played song on the American Radio Stations. This is a must on your house collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great song from bestselling singer in Greece, February 9, 2004

Nice song-the rest of the songs in the Greek album are even better but they would probably sound greek to you...By the way the performance, voice and everything else about Despoina are great so please don't be jealous that the song goes that well...if you think you could do better try to sing from english to greek. The other way around Despoina does a pretty good job..

4.0 out of 5 stars Serb Chick Do It Better, December 24, 2003

This review is from: Gia (Audio CD)
I heard this tune sung by a mega good-looking blond diva from Serbia, who, honestly, does a better job. Although not the best of singers, she is better than Vandi. Got more pizzaz. Her name is Jelena Karleusha, or JK. Too Good! Phoebus, who produced this track, should have advertized it through her. This is why I only give four stars. The single itself carries only two real remixes, but it is not bad -- thr reason being that the actual song is just amazing (English version lyrics being dumb, but Greek being simple, and, most importantly, uninteligible), it makes you dance instantly and should start ruling the clubs where the whole trance schtick became a bit boring and overused. I had already heard it in several clubs, so I guess it caught on!

Once again, do check out the Serbian version of the song and check out, JK, thanks to Kelly from London, on www.karleusa.com!!! I had gotten a hold of the whole Jelena Karleusa CD through a friend, and there are a couple of really stunning dance tracks on it, one called "Manijak" in some DJ Valentino Remix -- it just blasted through me. I love new dance music and this thing from Greece/Serbia is wonderfully refreshing -- DJs of the USA, include this into the spin!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars What the he..., December 21, 2003
By
This review is from: Gia (Audio CD)
Should have stayed in Greece where her music didn't turn out to be a sell out. Being a fan of her original work, this just goes to show she wants to take her music to an all time low. "gia" or Geia has more of a mideastern sound than Greek and that song was high jacked from a mideastern artist. All time biggest high jacked song of the time.. congratulations
