5.0 out of 5 stars A unique experience, April 6, 2010
This review is from: Gian Carlo Menotti: Goya (Audio CD)
This is not only one of Menotti's best works, but this recording is one of the few chances you have to hear the voice of Penelope Daner. I've long felt that she was a sadly underrated and underrecorded artist. I was fortunate to hear her Walkure Brunnhilde twice; once in ArtPark in Niagara Falls back in '84 or '85 and a few years later in Miami. I will never forget either, especially the Miami performance. The power, beauty and complete security with which she delivered Brunnhilde's final lines in Act III is an experience that I will retain until my dying day. My friend and I just stared at each other with bewildered amazement. I swear the walls shook!! And her acting...especially in those poignant scenes with Wotan, then Siegmund in the second and Sieglinde, then Wotan in the third act was so sensitive and yet regal...a goddess all the way.
