5.0 out of 5 stars A Giant Print Print Bible That Lives Up To Its Name!
I am extremely pleased with this Bible. Too many "giant print" Bibles out there are not what they claim to be. I have so-called giant print bibles from Nelson (publisher of the New King James Version) and from Zondervan (publisher of the New International Version) that are disappointing due to the fact that the print is only moderately larger than the norm. This Bible,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Type but Quite Bulky Bible
This edition of the New American Standard is the best type set I have seen. It comes in a perfect 14 point print that is easy to read and follow. The Bible is in verse format and is offset by dark numbers when a new subect falls in the text. The words of Christ are in red letters which I prefer in black. This edition does not have cross references although a few do...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Giant Print Print Bible That Lives Up To Its Name!, September 30, 2004

This Bible, however, truly is what it claims to be: 14 point type that is truly easy to read. And at only twenty-seven dollars, this is a real bargain! The imitation leather (mine is burgundy) is very nice and quite durable. If you are seeking a Bible that is easy on the eyes (and in the excellent New American Standard Bible translation) then this is the one for you. In fact, I plan to purchase another copy, as a backup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice clean typeset in the reliable NASB translation., January 16, 2007
Excellent 14-point typeset. Letters have just the right darkness against a crisp, clean, white background. Some large print Bibles out in the market have 14-point typeset but the lettering is faint (to scrimp on ink costs I presume). The concordance is quite sufficient for routine purposes. The maps are clear and the color schemes used make them easy to peruse.

I notice some reviewers have complaints about the so-called bulkiness. I don't find this Bible all that bulky. If one wishes to have 14-point print on good quality paper one cannot expect a thinline weight.

Excellent product from the folks at Lockman. Definitely a must for weary eyes. Home run!

The Bible is fabulous deal. One small drawback for those looking for more references is that it has very few.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Economical Giant-Print Edition, July 8, 2010
By
Dina S. (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
The NASB Giant-Print reference Bible is designed to be easily read by older readers and the visually impaired. This Bible features large, clear text and is bound in a variety of quality materials. If you are searching for an economical giant-print edition, this Bible is an excellent choice.

About the Binding & Cover
The edition featured in this review is bound in Leathertex, an artificial leather that is flexible and durable. Leathertex is thought to be as durable as bonded leather, though it has not been on the market long enough to know for sure. This edition is also available in bonded leather, hard back, and genuine leather. The binding is sewn for added durability. Size: 10.2 x 7.5 x 2 inches

What's inside?
The text size of this edition is 14 pt, an excellent text size for those needing a giant print edition. The layout of this Bible is double column format, red-letter edition, with subject headings. Features of this edition include: translation notes, a detailed Dictionary/Concordance, 13,000 end-of-paragraph cross references, 8 full color maps, pages for family record/ family tree and located in the back are Introductions to the books of the Bible. This edition has one burgundy ribbon marker and the pages are gilt in gold, which looks elegant with the burgundy cover.

In the Front

1. Presentation Page
2. Family Records
3. Forward to the NASB
4. Abbreviations and Special Markings
5. Table of Weights, Measures, and Coins
6. Books of the Bible in Canonical Order
7. Books of the Bible in Alphabetical Order

In the Back

1. Dictionary/Concordance
2. Introduction to the books of the Bible
3. 8 full color maps

About this Translation
The translation used in this edition is the Updated New American Standard Version. The New American Standard Bible (NASB) is a revision of the 1911 American Standard Version. The American Standard Version is a reversion of the King James Version. Many view the New American Standard Bible as one of the most literal translations of the 20th-century. Since its completion in 1971, the New American Standard Bible has been widely embraced by many as "the most literally accurate English translation" from the original languages. In 1995, the Lockman Foundation reissued the NASB text as the NASB Updated Edition (or more often known, the Updated NASB or NASB95). Since then, it has become known simply as the "NASB" and has replaced the 1971 text in most current printings (although the Thompson Chain Reference Bibles, the Open Bibles, and the Key Word Study Bibles use the 1977 text for their NASB editions).

My Personal Opinion:
The quality of this Bible is excellent for an economical edition; the binding is sturdier than many other giant-print editions, and the text is a large, clear size making this edition easier to read. To test the readability of this edition I asked my friends and family for feedback. My mother found this edition to be very readable and a pleasure to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Large Print, January 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NASB Giant-Print Reference Bible (Hardcover)
I have searched and searched for a true large print version of the NASB and finally found it with the NASB Giant-Print Reference Bible. Other Bibles say they are large print, but often do not appear to be much larger than normal size text. Given that many Bibles are printed in small type, I suppose "large" for normal size text is a relative expression.

The Giant-Print type is easy to read, and the additional reference helps are useful but somewhat minimal. I would love to see Bibles have more contemporary maps of the Mid-East for points of reference; most of them stop with the Mid-East at the time of Jesus and the apostles.

The hardcover format of this Bible is fairly durable. I put a stretch cover over it to protect it though. I do wish this edition was available in a truly nice leather cover.

This review is from: NASB Giant-Print Reference Bible (Hardcover)
I am very pleased with this Bible. The print is TRULY Giant Print, unlike others. This Bible has 43 lines per page. Very clear to read. Text is true black and paper is true white. It is Smyth sewn, so it will last, and it lays flat on your desk.

5.0 out of 5 stars I looked long and hard., April 28, 2008
As I have gotten older I find it more difficult to read the finer print of most bibles. It doesn't take long for my eyes to tire and I have to stop reading. In my search for a new bible I was not only looking for good sized print but a durable product that would last the years. I am very happy with my search. The book is well constructed with a beautiful leather cover; I will charish it, as will my children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Bible but rather large, December 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NASB Giant-Print Reference Bible (Hardcover)
I really like this version and and the print is easy to read. I was happy with my purchase. The only thing I might mention is that it is quite large and heavy and not really suitable for carrying to church. I got a smaller light weight version for church and I use this one now for study at home since I really like the giant print.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thin Paper, November 2, 2008
This review is from: NASB Giant-Print Reference Bible (Hardcover)
I am very happy with the value however, the print from the backside of a page can be seen slightly through to the page you are reading. I'm sure this is nothing that will be "fixed." I suspect the cover and binding will wear out if used too heavily. For me this is no problem since this is one of many bibles that I have and keep this one at home. Blessings

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Type but Quite Bulky Bible, June 27, 2004

This edition of the New American Standard is the best type set I have seen. It comes in a perfect 14 point print that is easy to read and follow. The Bible is in verse format and is offset by dark numbers when a new subect falls in the text. The words of Christ are in red letters which I prefer in black. This edition does not have cross references although a few do appear at the end of the verses but not many.

The negative side of this edition is the size. It is big and bulky. You might enjoy having this Bible for study next to your bed or in your office but for Bible teachers this Bible is not for you. It's weight will wear you down. Zondervan makes the giant print in a personal size (much smaller than this edition) however they do not have it in any genuine leather formats. Bonded leather is cheap, fast, but not durable. I hope Zondervan will in the future release a personal size of this 14 point type Bibles.
