Book Description

January 12, 2004
Acclaimed writer Stuart Moore (Lone, Zendra) and hot artist Ryan Kelly (Lucifer) present a political satire for the 21st century! Meet the U.S. Department of Giant Robot Warriors - an underfunded, overburdened team that has to jump into action when a tiny Middle Eastern country suddenly achieves Giant Robot technology. Rufus Hirohito, head of the GRW, has his hands full with a temperamental boss, an attractive CIA liaison, and a robot that's just not ready for combat. And hey - just what's wrong with the President, anyway?

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Rufus Hirohito, the creative brains behind the U.S. government's Giant Robot Warrior project, likes the spotlight as much as the next scientist. But his latest infotainment TV appearance doesn't prepare him for the next morning, when an attractive CIA agent drops in on him and his fat, grouchy boss with a message: the president will be there tomorrow to see the latest GRW strut its stuff. Looks like a long night for Rufus, since the thing hasn't even been assembled yet. Of course, he gets it together on time (sorta), demonstrates it, and has to book with it, three hours later, to Paraqan, an oil-rich, dictator-led, radically religious Middle Eastern country that the president will in the meantime declare war on. Why? Because Paraqan has its own GRW, silly! Any resemblance between this wild satire and recent world events is strictly intentional, though writer Moore maintains that subsequent developments have made it more trenchant than it was when he completed it in October 2002. A graphic-novel sibling, brilliantly drawn, of Dr. Strangelove. Ray Olson
