5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, June 23, 2000

"Giant Steps" is probably my favorite song in all of jazz, and Buddy Rich's version here is one of the best that I've listened to. I would rank it up there with Coltrane's, although there are mistakes on the take here, such as where the vibe player begins his solo before the piano is done. I really like the way he harmonizes the melody for the sax section. If you are a jazz lover, I thouroughly recommend this CD for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rich + Hampton = Dynamic Duo!, September 5, 2000

This review is from: Giant Steps (Audio CD)
As you know if you've looked around I've done a review for over 25 of the Buddy Rich C.D.'s on Amazon and give them all pretty good ratings because of the amazing quality of the music, so it should be no surprise that I would recomend this C.D. as well. This C.D. features a small Combo setting with a guest performer: Lionel Hampton on Vibes! This isn't annoying vibrophone Jazz....this is versatile, well played music that you can only expect from a C.D. with the name Buddy Rich on it. I really am at a loss for words, which is unusual, but I would highly recomend this C.D.

It's great to hear Buddy Rich in a combo setting, especially teamed up with Candido Camero on conga. Lionel Hampton swings while Buddy cooks. The tunes are great, with great arrangments, and lots af variety. Oh yeah, the piano player, Barry Kiener, is great too. In other words this CD is GREAT!!!!! One of my all time favorites of any kind of music.
