Eclectic collection of short stories, poetry, and more!, May 24, 2000
This review is from: Giant Steps: The New Generation of African American Writers (Paperback)
You can't ask for more! If you want to know some of the freshest, best writers in America, or want to add to your collection of books, this book is the best. These people are the future in short stories and poetry. Kevin Young, the editor, did an excellent job in picking some great work from talented writers. Elizabeth Alexander's poem "Nineteen" captures a strong moment of a Vietnam Vet and a young woman's summer with him. Terrance Hayes' work is full of life, vital, and surprising. There is a sample of Kevin Young's work from his book Most Way Home, and work from his upcoming collection of poems about Basquiat. As an added bonus, a discography. This book will bring repeated hours of reading. A must have.
