I received this book as a child, probably shortly after it was published in 1970. It is a wonderful book and one of only a handful I still have from my childhood. I remember loving the growth of strength, and understanding the fears, of the little boy in the story. It was funny and touching at the same time. I suspect it started my fascination in stories with little people, such as The Borrowers and The Little's, which I would also highly recommend. I would especially recommend this book for young children who are exhibiting fearfulness - it may help.

A clever and thoroughly enjoyable book.A young child leads us all in overcoming our fears. How what is familiar seems to be the norm until we have comparative situations. The artwork is such that it would be a story on it own. A child not yet reading will enjoy creating it's own adventure story.
