Gib ("Big D-roll") Droll, March 30, 1999
This review is from: Gibb Droll (Audio CD)
This is nothing official. Just thought I'd spread the word on an album I received just which has had me smiling all day. Gib Droll's self-titled release (GIB DROLL) came out sometime in 1998, though I'm not sure exactly when in the year. I saw Gib Droll for the first time opening at the last show at the Wetlands. I was very impressed experiencing him and his band live. Unfortunately, the Wetlands was so packed I didn't want to risk leaving my spot in the stage area to pick up some of his music at the bus.
The album is very short...running under twenty-four minutes, I believe...but sweet. Surprisingly, there is less emphasis on Gib's shredding guitar work...which seems to be his trademark in concert...and instead a nice even quality to the album with some nice touches added to the songwriting. There's a lot to be said about the songwriting, too. My favorites on the album are the tempestuous "Indian Song," the subtly sweet "Time Is Free" (no relation whatsoever to the song by ARU), and the blues-based "Mexico" (no relation whatsoever to the song by MOE., though it is about being "brokedown in old town New Mexico"). In fact, I'll go as far as to say that all these tunes are must-hears. Anyway, I don't want to get into a in-depth review. I believe Gib Droll also has another release out, titled DHARMA. I'm not sure if this is more recent than GIB DROLL or not, though I'm so into this album I may make it a point to pick it up, too. Peace...

SEE GIBB LIVE !!!, April 25, 2003
This review is from: Gibb Droll (Audio CD)
All his albums are great and worth every dime ... but you have never lived until you have seen Gibb Droll Live! I asked him one time after a show if he takes his guitar to bed with him. His passion for music is amazing and his show is awesome. If the hairs on your arms don't stand up when you see him play a solo behind his back or with his tongue, just let me know.
