I am always changing heads on my drum kits and purchased this speed key to make the task easier. However, it isn't as easy as the design would lead one to believe.

The problem is the crank part of this key does not extend far enough horizontally, and the shank is too short to hold upright. This results in the key going to a natural angle when you are spinning it, which slows you down at best, and could damage your lugs at worse.

I recommend, instead, using the Evans Drum Key Pack (ASIN B0002M3BKC), which includes a magnetized drum key in regular "T" configuration, and a drill bit drum key that will make short work of spinning the lugs. Also be aware that if you do opt for the Evans solution I recommend, make sure you have a low-torque drill.

When it comes to drum lugs less is better because you only want to spin them hand tight and finish with a traditional key or a tuning key. The drill I recommend is the Campbell Hausfeld DG110400CD Mini Compact Drill with Keyless Chuck (ASIN DG110400CD). This is a compact and inexpensive drill that does not have much power or torque. Finally, I recommend final tuning with either a Rhythm Tech Memo Key (ASIN B0002E2EOE), or an Evans Torque tuning key (ASIN B0002D0HZI). Either of those will allow you to quickly get your heads in perfect tuning once you have done an initial tuning and have written down the settings.
