5.0 out of 5 stars everything in one! though heavy :), January 27, 2010
This review is from: Gibson Les Paul Classic Electric Guitar, Ebony Gold Hardware*
hey everyone,

I own this in Goldtop. It's heavy, well-constructed and solid as a rock. immediately replace strap buttons with stronger ones to prevent instrument from falling off strap due to weight. with that advisory:
There's a reason why Les Paul's have a great reputation. This guitar can deliver strong, clean tones and nasty, crisp and resonant sounds with the 500T bridge humbucker. Instrument stays in tune well, no reliablity or intonation issues whatsoever. Slip taper 60's neck a joy to play on. back wood grain shines! nice quality.

I know Gibson quality these days can be a little off at times, but I'm proud to say this one was made with pride and close attention to all details. Some people resent this model's Classic moniker; players expected '57 Classic pickups. This model does not have those pickups. I like the 500t bridge humbucker; very strong! if you don't, swap it out, your choice. Now, price. Yes, these models increase every year and better make sure you know what you want before spending that kind of cash. I paid $1,100 used. shop around, gain knowledge. wonderful instrument and well worth the wait! also, kept in nice shape, they do appreciate in value.

***if you cannot afford USA Gibson, here's a secret tip: back in the day Gibson had an exclusive Japanese line called Orville By Gibson. I heard great things about these guitars!however, build quality varies and the one I played on, I liked. Ebay has some available for HALF the cost of USA models. do your research.

Option 2: Epiphones have been getting better. do your homework and don't settle. swap out stock electronics with Gibson's. tone will certainly improve. but don't expect it to be the same guitar, c'mon.

Option 3: small, independent company Sparrow makes Les Paul style guitars with close attention to detail and will build some to your specs. MUCH cheaper than USA Gibsons and I've heard good things...

with the ever increasing costs of instruments, shop around. however, I know for a fact mine will last many years to come. you only need one you like!
