This review is from: Gibson Custom EDS-1275 Double-Neck Electric Guitar, Alpine White
Yes, this is a very heavy instrument, but it can't be faulted for either its sound or its history. Jimmy Page popularized the thing, and Alex Lifeson showed its capabilities during Rush's 'prog rock' era. The combination of the 12 & the 6 string guitars, with the selector switch easily accessible, means it lends itself to music that a normal 6 string simply can't match. The PAF's are perhaps still the greatest electric pickup ever - very clean and do drive nicely, even tho' they are beaten for sheer power by the modern pickups on more modern guitars. And let's face it, nothing looks cooler - check out Alex Lifeson on the 'Xanadu' promo video.

A word of warning: as this is a very top heavy instrument, it has a tendency to want to fall away towards the floor when standing, and quickly becomes quite painful to play when sitting down, with it resting on your lap. I suppose this alone would account for the limited numbers actually seen today. Therefore, if you want to buy a single instrument, this is probably not the one for you. If, however, you have a decent collection, and want to explore more possibilities for your playing, then this will certainly do that.
