I bought a used Epiphone Les Paul Standard off Craigslist and I was unhappy with the stock Epiphone pickups. They sound great clean, but when you add distortion, the lows and highs are extremely muddy. I decided to upgrade the pickups with real Gibson Burstbuckers. I bought this Type 3 Burstbucker for the bridge and a Type 2 for the neck position. I spent about 180$ total on the pair. Installation requires 2 screwdrivers, a set of needle nose pliers, a wire-stripper and a basic soldering kit. If you're at all mechanically inclined, it should take no longer than an hour or so to finish the job.

The Type 3 Burstbucker sounds amazing in the Bridge with distortion. It was definitely worth upgrading. I play a wide range of styles, and I need a guitar that can handle everything from Metal to Country. The Burstbucker 3 in the bridge gives me a nice bright, crunchy sound with a ton of definition in the tone. When you play clean, I would say that it sounds a little harsh. Its almost impossible to strum with the pickup switch in the bridge position without hearing a little crunch. I have to switch to the middle position if I want to play clean. I play out of large 4x12 Crate cabinet with a Line 6 amp, so maybe you'll get different results and a cleaner tone in you play out of something smaller with real tubes in the amp.

The Type 2 Burstbucker is recommended by Gibson to be paired with the Type 3 Burstbucker in the bridge. I'm wasn't entirely blown away with this configuration. I should have gone with a Gibson 57 classic pickup in the neck and the Burstbucker 3 in the bridge. This is the configuration used in the new Gibson Traditional Pro models. The 57 classic sounds MUCH better in the neck.

-Gibson IM57C-ZB Type 3 Burstbucker in the Bridge Postion 5/5
-as a pair with the Type 2 Burstbucker in the Neck 3/5

I have not yet got to try this with my burstbucker pro #1 NECK PICKUP. Alone it is very versatile and clear with a strong edge. I only would warn that you need a good enough amp to truly enjoy. I was pleasantly surprised at the performance but lacked in my ability not the pickups.
