A True Rock Icon with Unbeatable Value

The SG Standard for 2014 is both the most comprehensively featured and the best value ever produced in this long and legendary guitar line. In keeping with the spirit of Gibson’s 120th Anniversary, this SG Standard retains its ties to the tone and feel of the classics that kicked it all off in the early ’60s, incorporates the best of Gibson innovation for the 21st century, and then delivers it all at a truly unbeatable price.

Body and neck

The SG Standard follows the tried-and-true design of the original SG Standard, with an asymmetrical double-cutaway body for excellent upper-fret access. The solid mahogany body features a glued-in mahogany neck with a slim ’60s profile. A black TekToid nut tops the rosewood fingerboard, which carries 22 cryogenically treated frets for long life and corrosion resistance, traditional trapezoid inlays, and a commemorative 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret.

Pickups and electronics

The guitar carries a pair of Gibson’s extremely popular ’57 Classic coil-splitting pickups in the neck and bridge positions. These pickups are built with the genuine Alnico magnets used in the legendary PAFs, but updated for the requirements of today’s high-volume rock. From warm, rich rhythm to wailing lead tones, they do it all. They’re wired through a complement of independent volume and tone controls, with push/pull coil splitting volume pots and a three-way selector switch.

Hardware

A chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece are the anchors for outstanding resonance and sustain, while the Min-ETune automatic tuning system provides 12 factory presets and 6 user presets for instant tunings on stage or in the studio. Enlarged strap buttons (new for 2014) keep your guitar secure throughout the set. Vintage-cream binding, black pickup rings, a black early ’60s pickguard, and black top-hat knobs with silver inserts complete the package.

Protective case

The SG Standard comes protected in a vintage-brown Gibson hardshell case with plush pink lining, includes a truss-rod wrench and owner’s manual.

About Gibson USA

Gibson USA continues the tradition of innovation, premium quality, and made-in-America hand-craftsmanship that started in 1894. Although their flagship Les Paul is the most iconic guitar in history, other innovative guitars and basses have become standards in their own right—like the SG, Explorer, Flying V, and Firebird. Gibson instruments are truly “American made, world played. ”

The workmanship is superb, and the delivery packaging was excellent. The guitar has excellent physical balance for playing either standing or sitting. The tonal quality is excellent. I play this instrument daily (with pleasure).

Excellent craftsmanship with no dings, dents, or scratches from the factory. Plays very well, sounds great, and looks amazing. Great guitar for any player, regardless of skill level. I have had this SG for over a month and play it almost everyday. I am constantly using the Min-Etune system, thanks to Rocksmith 2014, and have not had to charge it once (still running how it came out of the box). A lot of people bash the Min-Etune system but honestly the less time you spend tuning, the more time you spend playing. Yes I can tune it myself, but it is so much faster, I don't bother. Only thing I wish, is that it came setup out of the box, but I understand every player is different.. I need to lower the action a little more to suite my playing needs. That is a user preference and not anything against the guitar or manufacture, so she gets a 5 star rating from me. Hope that helps, enjoy.

This is the kind of guitar that doesn't (at first play) seem overly amazing, unless you have played cheaper guitars at some point. I get what the other reviewer was saying about the price. While it is relatively pricey, the guitar I got, after a pro setup by my local experts, is outstanding. The ez tuner was new to me, but now that i'm used to it, I have no complaints. I now enjoy changing my tuning in about 15 seconds with it. The sound on this thing is great. I have seen others on various forums saying how it doesn't stay in tune however this has not happened to me. The finish on this guitar (I picked Walnut), just sparkles under the light. At around 6 pounds, it is very comfortable for long practice sessions. I am not a guitar expert by any means, but after 10 minutes of holding, playing, and hearing this Gibson, I knew I had made a good purchase.

I have a 2012 model with P-90 pickups. Its made in the US by non-Muslims so I trust that the guitar isnt booby trapped and wont explode and kill me and my family. The p-90'S HAVE A MUCH BETTER SOUND THAN THE HUMBUCKERS. I also dont have any of that auto tune crap -- that stuff is for complete fools.

For starters everyone needs to be made aware that there are reviewers here posing as legitimate customers who really dont own any of the guitars they review-- and one reviewer here in particular has been allowed to post multiple reviews on the same product page with the same exact user name.

Yes thats right 2 reviews for the same guitar on the same page with the same user name!
He will claim to own several hundred guitars in one review and then 2 inches down is another review by the same person claiming to own less than a hundred guitars. When you click on both reviews they lead you to the same person!

Be aware of fake reviewers who claim to own 200 guitars in one review then they own 80 guitars in the next review. Dont be duped by unethical advertising or false review practices here.
Comprendez-vous?
Listen I will make it simple so that you can understand: Whats the most expensive parts of a guitar? Answer: the wood and the pickups.
Where can the manufacturer save money and offer you a lower price guitar?
Answer: In the wood and the pickups.

So at 400 bucks you are usually going to get a toy-- but here with the mass production techniques and economy of scale Epiphone can offer a semi-pro guitar for 400 dollars the reason being is the neck is massive and the semi-hollow design imparts a natural reverb that provides sustain and great acoustic type tone. The neck is well made without binding- the frets are nice and smooth.
