From the cheesy leather binding to the paper pages with print-through this is an example of poor quality. The description says it's .9" thick so I thought the print would be decent size with a page count fairly high. My bible is just over .6" from outside of the front to outside of the back. This makes the print so small you can hardly read it and the print-through completes the difficulty. I like this translation but I don't like the way it's presented here. I think the publisher should be ashamed to provide such an item. Save your money and buy a copy with decent size type. This has to be around 6 to 8 pt type. Gift bible - - I think not! I'll give the hard cover version first.

This bible is not what I expected. It is old looking although I can tell it is new. I would not give it as a gift that is for sure.

This is an excellent translation at a amazing price. You can't get leather at this price; don't expect it. This is a nice alternative to The Message, which is also excellent. This sticks closer to the original language. Both translations are very accessible for any English speaking readers. God's Word and Life Instruction Manual comes to life here. Rick Warren (Purpose Driven Life) on How to Study the Bible recommends using 2 or 3 translations to get the deeper meaning from the Word. I use a parallel bible as my most frequent source when studying (NIV & Message). I wish the CEV were available in a parallel version.
