4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the season!, December 15, 2011

This is a great novella, perfect for the upcoming holiday season. It definitely helped get me in the mood to do all my Christmas wrapping, and wishing to go out to the mountains and see the winter wonderland.

Only thing I wish would be to make it longer, but I say that about almost all the books I read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Keeper, December 21, 2011

C.J. Carmichael weaves a whole lot of story and emotion in this short novella.

Kindergarten teacher, Amy Gold, is caught in a dilemma. She's keeping a big secret from her new love, Deputy Gray Cassidy--one Amy fears will end their relationship. As she plans her last Christmas with him, new trouble comes knocking on her door in the form of a little girl, and Amy has to decide whether to follow the law, or her heart.

Carmichael is well known for her 30+ novels with Harlequin, expertly blending plot, sentiment, and sweet romance. She delivers the same potent combination here. "The Gift" is a heart-tugging Christmas novella you'll want to read every year.

An excellent addition to the Bandit Creek series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Christmas Story, December 15, 2011
This review is from: The Gift (Bandit Creek Books) (Kindle Edition)
It's a Christmas story about a little child showing up at the doorstep on a snowy night in Montana's Bandit Creek. It's a sweet romance between a kindergarten teacher and a local deputy. And it's a dilemma about what is the right thing to do.

CJ writes memorable characters and intricate plots, even in a novella length, and she's included several town residents you may have already met in the Bandit Creek series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A touching Christmas tale, December 22, 2011

BMC "Book Babe" (Calgary AB Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Gift (Bandit Creek Books) (Kindle Edition)
I've read many of CJ Carmichael's contemporary romances in print over the years so I was thrilled to see her contribution to the Bandit Creed ebook series. As always, CJ delivers a sensitive and compassionate story even when faced with the confines of a shorter length. She created fully evolved characters, interacting in believable relationships, faced with real-life issues. My stomach was in knots with the heroine when faced with the small child on her doorstep and I followed along her emotional journey. I recommend this story to anyone who has enjoyed CJ's other books, and to others who have yet to discover her writing talent but love a good christmas story or contemporary romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional Christmas Story, December 22, 2011
This review is from: The Gift (Bandit Creek Books) (Kindle Edition)
It takes a skilled writer to weave such conflict and emotion into a short story. I read this in one sitting and finished the story with a smile on my face.

Set in the small town of Bandit Creek, The Gift is about the dilemma faced by a young kindergarten teacher, Amy Gold. It is a complex situation, made even more poignant by Amy's personal struggles and the difficult decision she's made about her relationship with Deputy, Gray Cassidy.

If you are looking for a short, emotional, feel-good read, then I think you'll enjoy The Gift!

I wish it would have been longer but what CJ packed into this short novella was brilliant. Characters you right away related to and rooted for and a conflict that tugged at your heart. There's a reason Ms. Carmichael had published over 20 books with Harlequin Superromances and this is yet another shining example of quality writing at its best.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Traditional Romance, December 17, 2011
This review is from: The Gift (Bandit Creek Books) (Kindle Edition)
CJ Carmichael has written an emotional story about the relationship between two adults with conflicting needs. Throw these two together at Christmas, add an abused child and you have the recipe for a touching romance.

This sweet romance is a departure for Bandit Creek - it's a love story without any paranormal elements. I loved it.

My only complaint? It was a tad too short.
