5.0 out of 5 stars Teaches us to forgive ourselves!
This book was given to me by a friend when my daughter died, as I could not forgive myself, my husband, or God; and as time grew so did my bitterness for life and towards others. This book offered me a chance to heal at my own rate, instead of lashing out at others who offered help. I would often make comments, while reading, like, 'Yeah right! Who are you kidding! I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Charles Stanley is a heretic who ignores and disobeys Jesus!!
I have read Charles Stanley's book and find his theology so heretical that it doesn't even rate the title of JOKE. First, he gives an unscriptural definition of forgiveness that he makes up: "Forgiveness, then, involves three elements: injury, a debt resulting from the injury, and a cancellation of the debt." But Jesus himself gave the four distinct steps of forgiveness...

5.0 out of 5 stars Teaches us to forgive ourselves!, January 12, 2002
This book was given to me by a friend when my daughter died, as I could not forgive myself, my husband, or God; and as time grew so did my bitterness for life and towards others. This book offered me a chance to heal at my own rate, instead of lashing out at others who offered help. I would often make comments, while reading, like, 'Yeah right! Who are you kidding! I have every right to be a -----!' Over time, and upon highlighting and re-reading this book, my heart began to change.

Mr. Charles Stanley is very straight forward and honest in his writing. It seems that he holds nothing back. He offers steps to help us forgive ourselves and others, based on biblical principles and he offers us reassurance and comfort such as, 'Regardless of what you have done, you have not stretched God beyond his limits. His love knows no limits.

5.0 out of 5 stars God wants us to forgive, August 25, 1999
Dr Stanley brought us the fact that we have to forgive one another. God wants us to forgive like He does. This book taught us how to deal with bitterness using the most powerful tool, which is forgiveness. Dr Stanley has done a great great job to illustrate the meaning of forgiveness. Moreover, He told us the steps to begin forgiving others! This book is a must. See the benefit of being forgiven. We just can't forgive others if we don't realize that God forgives us first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scripturally-based assistance in learning to forgvie, December 25, 1998
By A Customer
This book provides a scripturally-based walk through what it means to forgive, and the importance of doing it; not for others, but for yourself. It covers, in a methodical, step-by-step reading, of why it is important to forgive, forgiving others, forgiving ourselves, and what to do when someone seems to need to be forgiven over and over. It also discusses the bitterness associated with not forgiving, and how that bitterness comes to affect many parts of our lives. This book helped me to find forgiveness when trying to deal with a divorce, and the associated pains.

5.0 out of 5 stars God's Word made personal, June 13, 2001
This book has become my bedside bible. I want to buy a copy for everyone I know. As a new believer, it clarified so much for me about having a relationship with Jesus, and His ability to help me overcome difficulty. I would encourage anyone whose spirit is not at rest, or who is seeking to have or deepen their relationship with the Lord through Christ to buy this book. There were very practical steps to lead you out of bondage and into His grace. It is the only book of it's kind I have read cover to cover - God Bless you if a copy falls into your hands

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on Forgiveness, August 28, 2006
This review is from: The Gift of Forgiveness (Paperback)
I'm not big on self help books, but this book really got me. I started reading the first couple of pages just to see what it's about, but couldn't stop. This book is just awesome, really helps you understand forgiveness and the gift to forgive. Since reading this book, I've started working on myself and started noticing how my life started to change. I propably would have still lived in the past and brought my anger with me to the next relationship, but thanks to this book I'm free. I can actually say that after 20 years I am ready to let go and forgive. I'm ready to move on and live a happy life, and the only way to do that is to forgive.

I recommend this book to all my family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgiveness vs Repentance., January 11, 2007
This review is from: The Gift of Forgiveness (Paperback)
This is in response to the comments about how forgiveness is a one time deal. This is true...all sin was paid for on the Cross. But Christ's work does not stop at the Cross. He rose from the dead to impart NEW LIFE into every believer...to start from scratch and allow the Holy Spirit to shape us into a "new creation" in Christ. We were "sealed with the Holy Spirit" in restored fellowship with our Creator so that we could learn from Him and become more Christlike. We only learn from conviction from the Holy Spirit, and that requires us to humble ourselves and admit our mistakes. Your are taking the "heart" out of our relationship with Christ and Christianity when you focus on the "technicality" of the Cross. Jesus said "It is finished" at the Cross because payment had been made for all of mankind's sin. But God help the man that thinks that is the end of the story. God is alive...Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father INTERCEDING FOR US. He hears our prayers and wants to mold us into HIS IMAGE. The Bible says for us to "take up our cross daily." That doesn't sound like it's over to me. The label one attaches to that process of humbling ourselves to become more Christlike (forgiveness, repentance) doesn't really matter. It's all about our heart attitude, and if we aren't humbled everyday by how little we can do right on our own, we are totally missing the point. It wasn't over at the Cross; for the believer, it really had only just begun.

5.0 out of 5 stars LIFECHANGING MUST READ, August 16, 2007
This review is from: The Gift of Forgiveness (Paperback)
This book describes what unforgiveness does to a person's life and to all the relationships around them. It gives spiritual and practical clear steps to forgive others and ourselves. We need to be careful of our words because just one sentence can create a wedge in a relationship that lasts for years and the one who made the comment may not know why the other person is suddenly giving them the cold shoulder. The book may help us determine if there's someone we need to forgive or if we need to be forgiven. I can now more readily recognize these issues in someone else's life and pray specifically for them. After reading this book, I believe that unforgiveness is at the root of many individual's issues and that they will be bound by this until they are freed (and this book can guide them thru this process). There's too much to say but I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!
Charles Stanley is honest as usual. He uses his own life in some of the examples which helped me relate to him. This book is lifechanging. It can help you be a better student of others. I found it helpful to think about how I treat those closest to me in my own household and how they treat me and why. This book has changed the atmosphere in my household to a positive one instead of an antagonistic one. We can go to others, ask them if there's anything we've done that they're hurt about, be ready to accept the answer and forgive one another...I know someone who did this with their grown children...be free. You will, hopefully, see the importance of forgiving others and yourself and make that a priority in your daily life with God's help. Thank you.....This is my first book review....I thought this book was worthy to write about. RUN TO BUY IT!!! I've bought 4 copies so far!

Dr. Stanley does it again. This great communicator from Georga has written a needed message for our time. His presentation is such that it has prompted meaningful discussions in our Sunday School Class. Indeed a classic, indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Gift of Forgiveness, April 28, 2008
This review is from: The Gift of Forgiveness (Paperback)
This is an essential book for every believer, preferably the new believer. In fact, this book should be a requirement for all new believers who come into the faith. I'm an older believer and by reading this book my eyes were enlightened in many areas I was blind to. Not only does Pastor Stanley teach you the how to, and why you should forgive, but he gives you review exercises to do after each chapter that cause you to remember what it is you read. Answering the review questions, makes the book more personable and relative to the reader.

Thank you Dr. Stanley for showing me through the Word of God what has been lacking in my life. I'm now living what I read and will never go back to my former mindset. I have been forgiven and set free; and whom the Son sets free, is free indeed!

Love and blessings to you,
Petra Gonzalez
