5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating blend of romance and the "supernatural."

1.0 out of 5 stars Definitely not Krentz's best work
If it weren't for the Renaissance story thread, I'd have tossed the book without finishing it (Jonas is a dishwasher with a PhD in history). In the beginning Verity lets Jonas force his way into her closed restaurant and gives him a job even though she is fearful and suspicious of him.

Jonas later shows up at a nearby spa where the owners let Verity use the hot...

Gift of Gold blends your independent female heroine and tough male hero with a dash of the supernatural in the form of hero Jonas Quarrel's trips into a type of time tunnel. He has the ability to actually experience the history of objects of violence, but can then become overcome by the emotions connected to them. Verity Ames becomes his perfect match, able to control the powers in the psychic time tunnel and match Jonas passionately on the physical plane. The perfect matchup on more than one level makes their romance a binding one that is able to overcome outside threats. This novel should be read in conjunction with its sequel, Gift of Fire. Fans of Krentz will note that her later books, such as Deep Waters and Absolutely, Positively have strayed away from the psychic format of the two Gift novels and Midnight Jewels and into the realm of the business world. If they miss that added twist, take a look at her new series under the name Jayne Castle -- Amaryllis and Zinnia. Jayne has taken the concept started in the Gift novels of a woman being the controlling force for a man's psychic power making her the perfect mate into a new realm. She moved them to another planet where psychic ability is the norm and runs from there. If you liked Gift of Gold/Fire, take a looke at the new novels written as Jayne Castle

4.0 out of 5 stars Even after 10 years I remember this plot vividly!!!, February 1, 1999
By
This review is from: Gift of Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the first book of Ms. Krentz that I read, and that was all it took; she had me hooked! Even after 10 years and hundreds of books, I remember the plot with great detail. Gifts of Gold, and its sequel, Gifts of Fire make a great read for those who like contemporary AND historical fiction. There is a dash of the paranormal, which Ms. Krentz later expands in her 'flower' books (Orchid, Zinnia), but which she wrote about WAY before it was vogue to do so. I just love the way she took our hero and heroine and combined their special 'gifts'. With a quick wit, a great sense of humor, a villanous 'bad guy', and some great sensual scenes, this book is not to be missed!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a "gift" for the reader, January 26, 2000
This review is from: Gift of Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
Verity and Jonas are very memorable characters, which is why the sequel to this book "Gift of Fire" was written, if it had not been, we would have demanded it! Jayne Krentz writes well researched books with humor, passion, and believable plots even when the 'paranormal' elements can make for a wild ride. The best part of the book is the relationship between Jonas and Verity, full of passion, doubt, trust, exasperation, and full of life. I like that Krentz uses other characters' foibles and machinations as 'tests' for the two characters, which make for an exciting read. Do not pass up this book or the sequel. You will be missing some great reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best JAK book written yet!, June 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Gift of Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read almost every JAK book that she has written. I can say that I have enjoyed every contemporary romance she has written (I'm not too into the otherworld, futuristic ones). Her heroes are always believable but heroic. Her heroines are down-to-earth women. And of all the books I've read, this one is my absolute favorite. Those professional advertising reviews always state "you won't be able to put it down", but in this case, its true! I totally fell in love with Jonas and could easily imagine myself as Verity (I have red hair too!). And by the way... Make sure you read Gift of Fire after this one; it takes you through Verity and Jonas' next phase of their romance and keeps you "begging for more".

5.0 out of 5 stars I pulled an 'all nighter' to finish this book !, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Gift of Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
I just loved Jonas and Verity ! I love reading about a strong woman, involved with a strong man who is not afraid to let her BE strong. Of course we all need someone to take care of us once in a while, to care what happens to us; Verity just wants to help him get along in life, and he just wants to be with her. The psychometry just drew me in even further. This is one of her best books, I couldn't wait to get the sequel !

I can't count the number of times I've reread this book and its companion piece, Gift of Fire. If you like strong characters, some paranormal activity, and a great romance, you have to read this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best out of a huge body of work., May 27, 2000
This review is from: Gift of Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been reading Jayne Ann Krentz for 20 years. She has written a LOT of good books, but these two--Gift of Gold and Gift of Fire--are probably my favorites of hers. I come back and reread them about once a year. They've got it all--neat principle characters, a terrible villain, interesting minor characters, plenty of chemistry, a real problem that has to be worked out, and the paranormal. This is Krentz at the top of her game.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book worth reading over and over., May 1, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Gift of Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is an exciting foray into the world of pschometry heavily dosed with Jayne Ann Krent's unique style of romance. From the back alleys of Mexico to the mansion of a dangerously eccentric artist, Ms. Krentz weaves a story of suspense, danger, adventure, love and humor. This story is one to be enjoyed over and over, ideal for the deserted island at sea. Of course, the sequel "Gift of Fire" needs to be tucked into that duffel bag as well

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb. Krentz is romance., April 10, 1997

This review is from: Gift of Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
All of Jayne Ann Krentz's books are perfect. Ms. Krentz deals with everything from the supernatural to futuristic. I recommend all her books. I have not found one that I dislike yet. Delving into the supernatural in "Gift of Gold" Ms. Krentz delivers a believable storyline dealing with a time long past. Way to go Ms. Krentz. Keep up the good work
