Editorial Reviews

Review

“A lovely story about a little apple tree who has a secret dream—to bear apples of her very own unique color and flavor. A Gift for Little Tree perfectly captures the yearning of a mother and the joy of adoption. Sweet, lyrical, and unforgettable.”  —Susy Flory, author, Thunder Dog

“What a delightful parable that will surely touch the hearts of anyone touched by adoption! Colleen Marquez helps us see the big picture of adoption, which is much-needed.”  —Sherrie Eldridge, author, 20 Things Adopted Kids Wish Their Adoptive Parents Knew

“A poignant, sweet look at the power and beauty of adoption, A Gift for Little Tree will bless both parents and children alike.”  —Mary Demuth, author, You Can Raise Courageous and Confident Kids

A Gift for Little Tree is a touching story of hope, inspiration and the joy received from adoption. The parable teaches children of the immense love parents have for them . . . no matter how they became part of their family!”  —Carol Lozier, MSW, LCSW, author, The Adoptive & Foster Parent Guide

“This book honors all parties involved in adoption. How often those of us impacted by adoption search for ways to help others understand its divine essence. This book does it amazingly well.”  —Rebecca Vahle, founder, Family to Family Adoption Support Program

“A beautifully illustrated and poignantly told allegory of pain, hope and new life—each of which has its place in every true story of infertility and adoption.”  —Jedd Medefind, president, Christian Alliance for Orphans

I got this book as part of an adoption day present for my little girl. She absolutely LOVED the colors and the pictures. She is only 2 but sat through the whole story pretty much captivated by the trees. They have so much color she loved it. I also read the book to my biological son that same night and he enjoyed it too. He is 3 so a bit older and even he enjoyed the story. I was afraid it'd be a bit too slow for him but afterwards he said 'Dis is my faborite book'.

The story is sweet and works for different types of adoption not just domestic or international infant adoption. I like that you can explain it to kids in whatever way works best for your family. I recommend this book to anyone adopting but I think it would also work well for foster parents. They could explain that yes they're taking care of other 'apples' and that they love them as their own until they can go back to family. (Yes I know that's not quite how grafting works but kids don't)

My husband was adopted and I thought this book would be a great way to help our kids understand the concept, but after reading it and talking with friends I found it applicable for many other situations. I recommended it to a friend who used donor eggs to conceive and was contemplating how to discuss that with her children. I think it could also apply to families with step-parents/children. Really about any way a family is brought together. Beautiful story, beautiful illustrations.

We have many adoptive parents in our church and we are encouraged to take care of all of Gods children ... Love the idea that we are all 'farmers ' and each day we actually find new ways to graft outlives to God. This book on adoption helps you to understand each child or person in your life is grafted and planted .
We love children with our hearts and the heart is the biggest ' little tree ' there is

A Gift for Little Tree covers many of the challenging issues surrounding adoption in the most compassionate and gentle way; I especially appreciated the way the book presented what not to say to parents who are discovering their infertility. As an early childhood educator, I believe this book needs to be available as a resource on every educators bookshelf to share with the parents who come in need of support regarding infertility and adoption.

Beautiful story for anyone, but definitely for those who have chosen adoption or surrogacy. Even for those trying to explain fertility treatments to children. Lovely, lovely book and will definitely recommend.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough: if you are adopting, have adopted, know anyone who has adopted (or ben involved in the foster system), you have to get this book.

This beautifully written book is perfect for all ages even though it's a children's book. The author's metaphor for adoption gives reader a wonderful visualization of such a beautiful act of love. It's such a touching story. I want to share this story with everyone I know.
