5.0 out of 5 stars OLD SCHOOL MEETS NEW SCHOOL-WONERFUL!!!, January 24, 2001

This is one of the best country soundtracks I've ever heard. This and the O'Brother soundtrack in the same year! The new Willie Nelson song is gorgous and the new Neko Case is a new level of beauty for the next REAL country diva. To have Merle, Waylon, Willie, Loretta, and George on the same album is a true pleasure. I don't think some of the songs were in the film, but the album is a nice reflection of the film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Furnace Room Lullaby is mesmerizing, May 17, 2004

This was a good movie - kind of slow but thought provoking. To me this is definitely a case where the soundtrack improves the movie. It introduced me to Cate Blanchett and also Neko Case. I bought this soundtrack CD specifically for the song "Furnace Room Lullaby". The DVD has a video of this song as an added bonus. I played it over and over again but wanted something to take in the car. I'm not a huge country western fan but if the music is good, I'll listen to it. I like most of the songs on this compilation. "I'm Alright" by The Souvenirs was a nice surprise too. My CD has another song on it which is not listed on the CD jacket's table of contents. It is song #10 but definitely is not the # 10 which is listed on the CD jacket's table of contents - the remainder of songs on the table of contents are correct - they just have the wrong number assigned to them which is annoying when you reference the CD jacket as you are playing it. I don't know for sure but it sounds like Los Lobos and the name of the song sounds like it should be titled "Heart On A Chain".

This CD is a good cross section of mostly country tunes. I wouldn't go out and buy a Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings CD but I really enjoy listening to this compilation.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice Mix, but (Disappointingly) Little Score, February 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Gift (Audio CD)
This is a nice compilation or "mix" album, and evokes a nice feel and flavor of the world of the film. However, Christopher Young's music for the movie was gorgeous and barely appears here. Even the tracks notated as "score" are misrepresented, as they are odd little snippets that don't even include the film's truly haunting and beautiful main theme. I was so disappointed to realize the CD did not include any of the real score at all. Still, a worthy purchase for some gorgeous and evocative classic songs.
