Book Description

June 1, 2008
For more than 35 years, Annette Martin has used her psychic ability, the “Gift of the White Light,” to help thousands of people answer everyday questions concerning the heart, career, health and emotional problems, and departed loved ones. She has assisted police agencies and the FBI, helping to solve crimes, convict criminals, and locate missing persons. She is frequently featured on national and international television and radio programs, and she became the first psychic sworn in as an expert witness in a court of law for a murder case. In a reading requested by John Denver, she said she saw him flying a small craft that would tumble into the ocean. Fifteen years later he would fatally crash his Long-EZ aircraft into the Pacific Ocean.

Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

For over 36 years, Annette Martin has used her psychic ability--the Gift of the White Light--to help thousands of people answer everyday questions concerning heart, career, health, emotional issues, and departed loved ones. She frequently assists law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, in solving heinous crimes and locating missing persons. When giving health readings, Annette Martin channels Edgar Cayce, the "sleeping prophet." Martin's predictions are uncannily accurate. In a reading requested by John Denver, she said she saw him flying a small craft that would tumble into the ocean. Fifteen years later he would die exactly that way.

From the Back Cover

Annette Martin will tell you that from her earliest days, when she would go to bed at night and close her eyes, she would see a powerful White Light shining over her, enveloping her, warming her. The White Light was a comfort to her, and she knew, even from a very young age, that it was a gift from God. She gradually came to know that it was her mission in this life to learn to use its awesome power to help people.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of psychic story, May 8, 2008

This review is from: Gift of the White Light: The Strange and Wonderful Story of Annette Martin, Psychic (Hardcover)
What is unique about his book is that it is written by a writer who starts out as a true skeptic. James N. Frey doesn't pretend to have all the answers to the little understood gift of intuition or psychic mediumship, but he does render the bio in a way that lets the reader form their own opinion. His personal experiences with Annette are a standout, especially the story of his stepmother. Annette Martin is presented as a person, not an above-it-all guru who knows more than "us", and she is as honest about the personal costs of being psychic as she is steadfast about her goal of service.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Biography that Reads Like a Good Novel, May 3, 2008
This review is from: Gift of the White Light: The Strange and Wonderful Story of Annette Martin, Psychic (Hardcover)
I have known Annette Martin for over 20 years and have wittnessed her powerful psychic abilities. I was honestly skeptical if James Frey could really capture the magic of her life, and abilities with accuracy without making the book into a new agey, woo-woo read. He certainly succeeded on all counts. Gift of the White Light is a true, unembellished and totally engaging biography of an amazing psychic. But, Frey did more than write a great biography, he wrote a page-turner. I am reminded of the style of the late James Mitchener's historical novels that informed as well as entertained. Gift of the White Light captures the amazing true-life adventures of one of the nation's most renouned psychics. Nothing is left out, all the stories are there, from famous astronaut boyfriend to the faeries in Ireland and more. The next best thing to reading the book is getting a reading from Annette.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Compelling Read, May 10, 2008
This review is from: Gift of the White Light: The Strange and Wonderful Story of Annette Martin, Psychic (Hardcover)
I am now halfway through "Gift of the White Light" - it is a compelling book, with author James Frey writing in a spare, direct manner about the life of Annette Martin. Annette is clearly a gifted psychic and it is fascinating to read how her life unfolds within the context of this gift. She has used her abilities to help countless people, and Frey discusses her considerable accomplishments in a straightforward and engaging way. I can't wait to finish it, and even at this midpoint, am planning on purchasing it as a gift for family and friends.
