Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gift wrapping, according to former textile designer Birkett, is a feat to be accomplished and then admired. Her instructions include those both nimble and not and range from covering a basic box to fashioning crackers for all occasions. There is something for everyone in these 150-plus different projects. Each runs about a page or two with minimal directions, large color photographs, and occasional tips on best/alternate methods. Some of the more unusual ideas: a rose-embellished bow, an origami box, a paper fan bow, and woven paper baskets, among others. At the end are the basics: materials, tools, and the five fundamental techniques (measuring, transferring, scoring, folding, and cutting). This handy how-to will leave gift givers rapt with pleasure. 3.0 out of 5 stars Too primitive, September 30, 2004
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Gift Wrapping Book (Paperback)
I was quite disappointed with this book. Included patterns and templates were, well, great if you are in a 5th grade. Some designs were simply tasteless (wrapping a gift in a bubble-wrap - oh please!). I was also expecting to see more techniques for making bows and gift accessories, but there were mostly instructions on how to make boxes and some hideous fabric bags. And does anyone really need 10 introductory pages and 2 pages about the types of ribbons in a 100-page book?

Don't expect to impress anyone except your Mom and Grandma, who will like almost anything you do anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm actually looking forward to next Christmas!, January 1, 2004
This review is from: The Gift Wrapping Book (Paperback)
This book has some of the best gift wrapping tips and ideas I've ever seen.

This Christmas, I was getting bored wrapping gifts the same old way, so I began surfing for some ideas to spice it up a little. This book did not disappoint. It has ideas for all skill levels, and uses materials that are widely available. It also has great wrapping ideas for gifts with unusual shapes and sizes.

It comes complete with simple instructions, step by step photographs and diagrams, and even has all the templates you need to get started.

From now on, all gifts will be spectacular, inside and out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good templates, but thin book for the price, April 28, 2008
This review is from: Gift Wrapping Book (Hardcover)
This book has clear instructions and decent templates, but relies too much on rather expensive metallic papers/plastics and bubble wrap that you can't recycle.

Gift wrapping doesn't have to break the bank, or be more expensive than the gift itself.

Borrow from your library first, before buying.
