This review is from: A Gifted Child In Foster Care: A Story of Resilience (Paperback)
This book gives little detail. Although the author has explained why she didn't talk about the negative parts of her life in foster care.
However, I bought the book as a foster parent looking for information about what these kids in foster care go through. It did not fulfill my needs for that information.

This review is from: A Gifted Child In Foster Care: A Story of Resilience (Paperback)
A GIFTED CHILD IN FOSTER CARE: A Story of Resilience by Dr. Grace LaJoy Henderson is another too good to be true tale! Dr. Henderson has already demonstrated her gifted hands at creating poetry that ministers to the spirit; however, in this concise little book, she reveals her talent at telling an emotional story with a positive twist. Breaking her silence about living in a foster care home after losing her parents taught this woman of God some very hard-knock lessons about love, abandonment, life, family, discipline, and resilience!
A GIFTED CHILD IN FOSTER CARE invites you into her personal life as a foster child. She reveals the pain of losing a mother who suffered from a mental illness and then losing a loving and caring father who could not stand still and allow his children to starve or be claimed by the streets. Although you will find yourself hanging onto a tear as she describes the affects of losing her mother at the age of two and life searches that turned up nothing. You will also smile at her childhood lessons about house chores, breakfasts, acting hard-headed, and how grasping the simple positive words of her principal transformed her mind to inspire positive behaviors. A GIFTED CHILD IN FOSTER CARE delivers some knocks of its own with the tragic death of a childhood friend and the ups and downs of living amongst gangs. Through it all, Dr. Henderson left the foster care system with the love of all her biological siblings, which is a testimony to the positive side of the foster care experience. Through her experiences in three different foster care homes, readers get an encouraging truth about how much love can be found inside the foster care system and how to deliver that love. This is a delightful and upbeat read for those with inquisitive minds about foster care, families considering bringing a foster child into their lives, and of course, foster childern discovering how to survive the foster care experience and live a successful life with more blessings to follow each day. In Dr. Henderson's own words, "The same way foster care affects your life, your life affects others." Reviewed by Swaggie Coleman for The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers |
