This review is from: Gifts, Favors, and Banquets: The Art of Social Relationships in China (Wilder House Series in Politics, History, and Culture) (Paperback)
I was forced to read this book for my Popular Culture in China class. The first few chapters were bearable. It should have ended there. It is so full of theory, explained in the minutest, insignificant detail, it is an almost impossible read. I am an avid reader, but had to keep a dictionary handy. It was an extremely painful read. If it were a quarter of the length I would have learned just as much.
