Book Description

P and up
From decorated notebooks, bookmarks, and refrigerator magnets to edible treats, shell mobiles, and key rings, this inviting manual provides step-by-step directions for more than 50 projects, one on each double-page spread, that children can do themselves with adult supervision (at least one requires use of the stove). Some, which use clay and salt dough, are for messy crafters; others are for neat and tidy ones. There are sewing projects as well as fun art projects, such as painting round stones to make pebble pets with funny goggle-eyes. Instructions, suggested age level (a few are for crafters older and younger than the target audience), and time requirements for each craft are accompanied by lots of color photographs of kids busy with all kinds of activities. A good addition to the crafts shelves. Hazel Rochman

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 5–This useful volume is divided into six categories–bric-a-brac, stationery, scented gifts, floral garden gifts, accessories, and edible treats–with 7 to 10 projects in each. Examples are magnets, bookmarks, gift wrap, birdfeeder, glasses case, and cookies. The book lists suggested age ranges for each activity, and an introduction explains the materials, provides safety tips, and recommends adult supervision. Each project includes a detailed list of materials needed, step-by-step instructions, approximate execution time, and photos of the construction steps and the finished product and any variations. The items are appealing to children and age appropriate. Both the written and visual instructions are clear and easy to follow. A great addition to craft collections.–G.
