Book Description

Winner of the League of Utah Writers Silver Quill Award - 2012

“I’d do anything if…” That’s exactly what Jonathan Wheeler wants to hear, but there’s always a cost. Tickets to the concert of the century? A college education for a child? Saving the life of a loved one? Jonathan Wheeler wants to make it happen, but if the price isn’t paid he’s prepared to deliver the consequences.

Jonathan decides to honor the wish of his dying wife – that he give away his fortune – but his methods are dangerously unconventional. He takes extreme measures to witness human struggle and watch the discovery of hidden strength. But when Jonathan goes too far, he faces consequences of his own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth your time! August 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I give this quick read; Gifts and Consequences, two thumbs up for a couple of reasons. First, having watched my sweet mother, deal with, and eventually pass away from, Alzheimers, I was glad Mr. Coleman treated the illness with tenderness and care. Second, the plot and story telling are wonderful! The characters are memorable and the twists and turns unexpected. It moved quickly and kept my interest till the end, both, in my opinion, admirable qualities in a book! Great job Daniel Coleman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gifts and Consequences July 15, 2011
By Allyson
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a good book for just about anyone. I could have read it to my husband and kids and they would have benefited from it as well. It kept me engaged throughout the entire book. Before I began I thought it would be like so many of the other books with the theme of wealthy person helps less fortunate people. I am happy to say that from the beginning of the book all the way to the end, I could not have been more wrong. Daniel Coleman has given the story an interesting twist and it works marvelously! The story is believable and the reading is enjoyable. I would highly recommend this book to any of you out there and will be recommending it to my book club.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reminded me of "The Millionaire". 1955 ~ 1960 February 24, 2012

The product review and the other reviews give you the summary of the story, I don't think you need it repeated again. I gave it five stars because I loved the story. Just as I'm sure you have seen enough 'page turner, fast paced, well drawn character' statements, so even though it applies to this book, I won't add mine to the pile...wait, I think I just did.

I feel a really good story needs character growth; a great story makes you think about what is true or sometimes more true, this did just that for me. I could see Johnathan's point of view but Marcus's as well. It also made me think about how someone who has a great deal of money can wield it for their own purposes. The real plus was some of the characters were thinking about it too.
The story was about integrity as well as consequences; it was about what exactly is a gift and who is receiving the greater gift, the one who gave it, or the one who received it.

Some people like to know if there is any objectionable language in the story, I don't think there was any that was out of character, I only mind it when it is gratuitous and not how one would expect a character to talk, so I may have not really noticed a word or two.
There is mention of God and some religious references. It works with-in the framework of the story, it isn't tacked on to make a Christian genre book to pander to a Christian audience. It isn't overly sticky, cheesy or preachy, but it is there, particularly toward the end. It has it's place and keeps to it.
When it came to the end, I admit I had to walk away from it for a bit before I could finish the last few pages. It just had that kind of emotional impact for me.
I can't think of any cons right now or really glaring plot holes, but that may be because I got the book today, and couldn't stay away from reading it until it was finished.
I will be keeping it for a later re-read and I will recommend it to certain family and friends.
