A fun game, but it can be confusing, especially with a lot of players.

First played this game at the 2007 Board Game Geek Convention in Dallas with four other good friends and we all laughed the whole time! Hello to Amy, Debra, Jeff and Tim! It's a great way to get to know your buddies and their materialistic desires!

The object is to be the first person to satisfy your wishes as both a gift giver and gift receiver. You exchange gifts ranging in point values from 1 to 4 (the gifts with higher points get more outlandish). Beware incorrect gift decisions as a giver or receiver or you will go backwards on the scoring track.

It's a great party game with fun for all ages and it only takes about 1.5 hours (including rules explanation) but could easily take 45 minutes to one hour with experienced players. Each card is double-sided and the starting player can pick a side to start each round.

***A word to parents:*** there are some cards that are too risque for certain age groups (parents can easily remove these from the game ahead of time, if this is a concern). This could also be a great workplace "teambuilding" game if you also take care to remove certain cards that could be perceived as HR issues waiting to happen. Otherwise, enjoy all your fine new treasures! This game is a great value with lots of fun for many years to come! Plus, the production value is very high and the bits are adorable!

We purchased this as a gift for my 21 year old niece. We played it right after we gave it to her. The four of us (My wife, my 9 year old daughter, and myself)played together. We had a blast! It was amazing what my wife of 15 years thought I would like, boy was she ever wrong!! The best gifter was our 9 year old! You think you know people, but this game can prove or disprove that notion. This is a great game with family and for a grouop of friends at a party! We loved it, and our 9 year old loved it! You will too!

This game is fun to play, but the rules take a while to get used to. Up to eight can play. I played this at a meetup in New York City. I'll try to explain how the game works.

Everyone gets a "goodie bag" with markers, scoring cards and other stuff. There's eight goodie bags, each one a different color. You place the gifts on the game board, and you place one gift more than the players in the game. So if there are four players, you put five gift cards on the board. Everyone has four marker buttons with OK (1 point), GOOD (2 points), GREAT (3 points)and NO WAY on them. Each player places the buttons on the gifts they like and hate, up to four gifts, one button per gift. You move your piece ahead in the GIVE column if you gave someone a gift worth one, two or three points. Giving a gift that someone marked NO WAY will move you BACK four spaces. You move back one space if the player didn't put a button on a gift you chose for them.

As for receiving gifts, scoring is similar. If a player picked a gift for you that you marked one, two or three points, you move ahead in the GET column and that player moves ahead in the GIVE column. The NO WAY rule applies here as well.

There are markers numbered one through nine to give your fellow players as to which gift you think they will like. Players go in turn revealing what gifts they like and what others gave them. But it's very confusing for the first couple of rounds. There are also four decks of prize cards, each a different color. Players chose one color deck before distributing gifts on the board. Each prize card is double sided, and players decide which side they want to place on the gift board. Gift cards state the gift in English and Spanish.

Gift Trap is a very cool game, especially if played in 8 players.
More people, more fun :)
