absolutely a must for the discerning (aging?) punker...i especially enjoy the ad libs from Mr. Morris between songs- he's a genuine entertainer. ...the album brought me back to a show of theirs in 1986 here in Chicago. buy it! (then tape it and give copies to all your wonderful friends)

All the best songs live,
By
This review is from: Gig (Audio CD)
This is the closest the Circle Jerks ever came to releasing a greatest hits album. All of their best songs played live at breakneck speed. 22 songs in 40 minutes. If you like circle jerks, buy this amazing live album. The recording quality is amazing, they sound almost the same as they do on their albums. The best songs on here are Beat me Senseless, Wild In the streets, I and I, and I Don't. ...

ESSENTIAL PUNK ROCK,
This review is from: Gig (Audio CD)
This is THE essential recording by the Circle Jerks. (I have all of their other albums as well.)
As a 30 year old Circle Jerks fan, I find that this is a mix of their best material from their early albums. I have seen them in concert 3 times and I have found that this is a great representation of their shows. I have bought the gig CD twice because one of my friends stole my first copy. It's truly unfortunate how underrated the Circle Jerks have become over the years. Too many have dismissed them for being too poppy, not being hardcore enough or as being too childish. I find that most people who describe them that way only have a cursory knowledge of one of the greatest punk bands ever. The lyrics are smart, the music makes sense and most importantly (and which rarely happens now days) you can hear the band having FUN on stage. How can you go wrong with 22 songs for 16 bucks?

Outstanding!,

As a long time Circle Jerks fan and an occasional correspondant with Keith Morris, I'm embarrassed to say that of all the CJ's albums available, this one I waited until last week to get. Oops. But I must say, I'm glad I did. Gig is an outstanding example of just why I love this band and a nice refresher course covering all but their 1995 album. I was never fortunate enough to see them live, yet, so, the amazing part is how tight this band was on stage. Keith, Zander, Keith C. and Greg don't miss a note. Even better, the sound recording is top notch. Excellent car jammin' album. The Circle Jerks were tied for first when it came to west coast hardcore punk in the early 80's and this is why. The only gripe I have with the release is that the liner notes tell us where the shows were recorded but not when. My guess is around 1990 or 1991, but dang it, I want specifics!

This is a very solid disc with great sound quality and great songs. I was pining badly for some live Circle Jerks when I bought this, and the disc definitely delivers. Listening to this isn't quite as energetic an experience as actually being there, but it's certainly better than nothing. There are a few songs I recall them playing pretty regularly live that I wish were on this album, but oh well. This CD is a fantastic document of one of the best live punk bands that I ever had the good fortune of seeing. The Jerks never disappointed me live.

PEDAL TO THE METAL,

This is the perfect CD to listen to while driving. Unlike Jeff Archer, I've seen Circle Jerks play at the Ventura Theater a couple of times. This CD was recorded at the Ventura Theater, not the time that I've seen them. Let me tell you, this is flat out balls to wall punk. This CD sounds like your standing next to Greg Hetson's guitar stack. I've met Keith and Greg at the Theater and both are really nice guys. I think Keith loves to play in Ventura. He never hangs out backstage, always out with the crowd before the show. Most of the young people usually won't recognize him, but how can you miss him with his long dreadlocks? Anyways, get this CD and catch them live. Keith can be controversial with his anti-Bush rants in concerts, but isn't that punk anyways?
