Book Description

April 1, 2009
The Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, Dance, Folk, Metal, Electronic, Indie Music Spectacular

Here are more than 700 extraordinary posters from the archives of GigPosters.com—the Internet’s premier destination for concert poster art. With the rising popularity of MP3 files and streaming digital music—and the near-extinction of traditional album art—concert posters have become the most important visual representation of contemporary music.

Gig Posters Volume I celebrates this dynamic medium with contributions from 101 top designers—including Rob Jones of Animal Rummy, Steve Walters, Jay Ryan, Gary Houston, Aesthetic Apparatus, Patent Pending Industries, and many more. Throughout the book, their voices offer fascinating commentary and behind-the-scenes information about the creation of gig posters.

Readers will also discover 101 perforated and ready-to-frame posters promoting today’s most innovative and original bands—including Radiohead, the White Stripes, Modest Mouse, Girl Talk, Queens of the Stone Age, Wilco, and many, many more.

Complete with an introduction by founder and curator Clay Hayes, Gig Posters Volume I celebrates the most talented designers, artists, bands, and performers of the twenty-first century.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 1st Edition, August 18, 2009

Short review:
1) This is an excellent 1st Edition.

2) The author included hard to find and relevant examples that are definitive of the genre

3) Wide breadth of artists, designers, bands, styles, etc. represented

4) The number one reason this is a 5 Star book is that the production values are magnificent, the paper stock is heavy, the prints are beautiful, the typos are nil (I haven't found any), registration is on-key, color is great, binding is durable, jacket is great. This is a value in today's cut and paste culture of mass media. This book presents the content in way that makes you want to open it again and again. This book belongs on top of your coffee table.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST, most awesome Gig Poster Book Ever!, September 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gig Posters Volume I (Paperback)
Well it is IMHO. Got it yesterday and haven't been able to put it down. Simply put this book is fantastic and I was blown away. I bought it based on these other reviews as I hadn't seen a copy in real life. Glad I took the plunge.

I really like the way it is printed on nice, heavier stock and each page comes with perforations so you can tear out and display selected pieces as posters. It is a larger book (dimension-wise) and this lends itself well to the fact that it IS a poster book. Nothing worse than getting a new book on art posters or design and the like, only to find that the images are smaller than you'd like them to be and you miss out on great detail.

I'm often doing music and gig posters, so for me this is a great little asset for inspiration. It has a little write-up on each of the artists/creative studios with a website for each which is handy and personally always appreciated. I highly recommend this book. There is a wide range of artists and tons of stuff I haven't seen before.

There are something like 700 images and 100 rip out posters. I will now have to get a second copy so I can stick a few around the office and keep one for reference :)

5.0 out of 5 stars best thing under the Christmas tree, March 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gig Posters Volume I (Paperback)
I purchased this for my 16 year old who is way into music. Of all the things I got him for Christmas I think that this was his favorite. He hadn't heard of half the bands in this book which lead him on some great research and he discovered some really cool bands. He has the posters hanging all over his wall.
