I have building systems for the last 18 years and this is one of the best motherboards I have ever used. It over clocks well, is stable as granite, and is so very easy to use. Unlike most motherboards it upgrades the bios very easy and with its dual bios it is a dream. The bios is well laid out and explains what each item is. If you are looking for a good motherboard to build a very solid system then this is for you, and its half the price of many of the "Elite" boards yet has most of the same features.

I was looking forward to owning another Gigabyte motherboard as my past experiences with this brand have been positive. Unfortunately, this was not the case this time. This particular motherboard seems to have issues running while using 4 sticks of RAM. Using only 2 sticks solves this issue but will limit the buyer to a maximum of 16gb of RAM, half the capacity of the maximum memory supported.

Latest BIOS has not solved the issue.

A quick google search reveals that this issue with the DIMM slots seems to be common with this particular motherboard.

I can hardly believe how easy this motherboard is. It takes no effort at all to get it to overclock my i5 4670K up to 4GHz on the stock cooler with a vcore of 1.150v. I’m still getting used to the UEFI bois though and am finding new features nearly every day. I like how this lets you save four different OC profiles and how you can set up a home screen for easy access to your most used bios settings. I have so far not stumbled into any issues, and have a feeling I won’t need to worry about it either. Back in the days of the first 64 bit processors from AMD I would always use Gigabyte motherboards for my builds, and I loved them. When I got my first Core 2 Duo 6600 I gave Gigabyte a try, but due to instability and high voltage needs, I ended up trading it in for an ASUS card instead. I would continue using Asus, even when building high end builds at work too. Then I skipped the first few iterations of the i3, i5 and i7 families and have now come back and built my first Haswell build. I thought for old time sake I’d go with Gigabyte (after reading a million reviews). To be honest, I think I made the right decision.

This motherboard met my needs. The main difference between Gigabyte motherboards for the same chipset are size, the connections, and where they are. For instance, the GA-Z87X-HD3 and the GA-Z87-HD3 have the same connections. However, the SATA connectors, and probably some others, are in different places. On the X series, the SATA connections slide in parallel to the motherboard, but the non X series are perpendicular. In my mid tower, you have to slide out the hard drive bay to access the connectors. But I am probaly not accessing the connectors without switching hard drives, so I do not see it as a big deal. As others have noted, the BIOS is complicated, but if it were something I visited often, it allows customization. My only nit is the USB3 connection to the motherboard does not lock, but that is minor. Here are some general notes on my build:

I rebuilt my computer using the components listed below. I built my previous system and several others. I used my existing Antec case and 430 watt power supply and miscellaneous 1Tb hard drives. I started from scratch and installed win 8.1 Pro rather than upgrading from Win 7. I am not a gamer, I do not overclock and I use Photoshop/Lightroom/MS Office but wanted a decent video card. I chose the I7-4771 because of the hyperthreading capability over the the I7-4770K and it was cheaper than the I7-4770 at the time. I also bought right over a 2 week period, I managed to get everything during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale except for the video card. Everything works on my case, speakers, lights, USB2, headphones, except the firewire since it is not supported by the motherboard. I have powered USB3 at the front of the case. I am very happy with the overall speed of the system and it boots up fast.

Ive had this board for a week and the USB drives are bugging out. They reset every 5 to 10 minutes constantly. I previously owned a gigabyte for my amd processor and no problem but this board sucks!!!! If you research my specific problem I am not the only one..I should have just ordered a better brand like ASUS but wanted to save $40 but just remember this review when you're wondering if you should spend an extra $40 bucks because now I have to replace my whole board because of Gigabyte. I have 2 kids and work 10 hours a day the last thing I want to do is spend 2 hours rebuilding my computer when I get home. And not to mention their customer service is a joke.

This one is a pleasure to upgrade with. Had no problems with the install, I was a big hold out to upgrade from windows XP with 8 years on the same OS build. So finally broke down and did a total rebuild based on this Mother board. with Windows 7 had a lot of nice surprises.

Disclaimer: I've only had the board for a couple weeks.

So far, this board is solidly built, overclocks well with BIOS tools (you can even choose just do an across the board % improvement for your cpu). Has preset overclock profiles for memory, too. Seems like I made a fairly solid choice, for this price point.

Pros:
Easy overclocking tools if you don't want to experiment. (Default overclocks always tend to add a tiny bit too much voltage, though)
Solid construction
Lots of USB 3.0 ports (It says it has 10, but I only counted 8 on the I/O panel. Maybe it's talking about the connections on the board it has to facilitate front ports, et cetera?)

Cons:
If I had to nitpick, I'd say the color scheme doesn't go well with my ram heatsinks and my graphics cards. So sad.

Very limited ownership, but it has been flawless so far.
