    The EX58-UD5 is the latest high performance X58 Series motherboards of GIGABYTE, designed from the ground up to unleash the awesome power of Intel’s new Core i7 processors. Equipped with a host of new features including the new QPI interface, 3 channel DDR3 support, 3 Way SLI™ and CrossFireX™ support, Ultra Durable 3 technology and the industry’s most extensive range of overclocking features, the EX58-UD5 is bringing excitement back into the high performance motherboard industry.
    Intel® Core™ i7 Processor and X58 Chipset support


    The EX58-UD5 was designed specifically to take advantage of the raw power of the next generation Intel® Core™ i7 processors and the Intel® X58 Express chipset, whose new evolution in computing architecture is able to deliver an amazing performance break through from past processor generations. Replacing the Front Side Bus is the new Quick Path Interconnect, or QPI, whose 25.6 GB/sec transfer rate (double the bandwidth of the 1600MHz FSB) eliminates the communication bottleneck between the processor and chipset.
    Intel® Core™ i7 processors also feature an integrated memory controller inside the processor die and support 192bit 3-channel DDR3 memory that delivers a 50% memory bandwidth enhancement and lower memory latency for incredibly fast memory access. Additionally, The EX58-UD5 features Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, which is able to power down idle processor cores and dynamically reroute the power to the active cores for significant performance boosts, and at the same time, maintain greater energy efficiency.

    GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 3 design, featuring 2 ounces of copper for both the Power and Ground layers which dramatically lowers system temperature by delivering a more efficient spreading of heat from critical areas of the motherboard such as the CPU power zone throughout the entire PCB. GIGABYTE’s Ultra Durable 3 also lowers the PCB impedance by 50%, which helps to reduce electrical waste and further lowers component temperatures. A 2oz Copper layer design also provides improved signal quality and lower EMI (Electromagnetic Interference), providing better system stability and allowing for greater margins for overclocking.

    In addition, doubling the amount of copper lowers the PCB impedance by 50%. Impedance is a measure of how much the circuit impedes the flow of current. The less the flow of current is impeded, the less amount of energy is wasted.     1 Plenty of overclock features.
    2 Keeps the VRM cool because of the multiphase design or 2oz copper PCB.
    3 A lot of LEDs: debug, phase, overclock. You can get useful information and it looks cool!

    Cons

    1 The lay out of PCIE/PCI is not smart. The PCIE 1x is useless because the north bridge heat sink will simply stop you from installing any card. Most of recent year video card heat sink will cover the PCI.
    2 No ESATA on back panel. You have to install a bracket to covert two SATA to ESATA. No big deal, just more cables.
    3 For Amazon, they ship it in a large box without any protection, even without a single air pillow. The motherboard box can move around in any direction.

    So far, I'm happy with it.

    I've had this for a month now, had no problems, after going through so much hassle with the EVGA boards and them choosing not to work with certain Quad Core processors I was glad to get this board working right away. Of course I had to go into the BIOS settings and figure out that USB Keyboards are disabled by default, which makes no sense to me considering most are USB, but enabling them fixed this problem and have not had any issues since.

    Just set up my system with the UD5, Great board, everything works, EXCEPT...
    I can't get the rear audio to play on my 5.1 system (5 speakers, 1 subwoofer)
    I have a set of soundworks 2500. I tried for an hour, and the rear speakers would always show up as side speakers. What I finally did was call it a 7.1 system and disable the the side speakers.

    It works, does what it is supposed to. Had my i7-920 at 3.8 ghz in no time. Booted up the first time no problem. I chose this card for my first build ever. Just make sure that you have a PS/2 keyboard because USB keyboards are disabled by default in the BIOS. Recognized all RAM, processor, etc... all no problems. Build quality seems good, TONS of USB 2.0 and SATA 2.0 ports. Only problem is NO USB 3.0. I didn't care so much because its going to be a while before those become standard and prices become acceptable...probably just get a PCi card for them anyway.

    This motherboard is really great, haven't had a single problem with it. It had all the components I needed and runs screaming fast. With gigaytes utility programs its so freaking easy to customize things, like overclocking with a click of a button and monitoring all temps of the system, I love it. It's also suuuuper easy to update the bios and gigabyte is constantly doing that making things better. I wouldn't go with any other motherboard brand.
