I bought this motherboard from Fry's store and wanted to share my thought here (as Fry's website sux).

On top of it's a Z97 based chipset motherboard which is Devil's Canyon and Broadwell compatible. It comes with insane amount OC tools including on board OC buttons (learn more here: youtu.be/65BBrcmNdzo), awesome dual bios not only for bios failure but also for you to have two different OC profiles to switch between, PCI-E and Memory ON/OFF switches which is great for troubleshooting and more!

Bios CP is great, comes in three modes, quick/shortcut, classic and HD mode; my favorite one is HD mode which super responsive and looks great!

Coming from Asus/Asrock mobos, terminology is a different here, but this guide made it easy: (overclock.net/t/1490835/the-gigabyte-z97x-overclocking-guide)

Now for what I care for the most is voltages stability and Vdrop, once I set the load line to extreme the vcore voltage was rock stable resulting in stable 4.6Ghz (10 hours Aida64 stress) on my 4770K with 16Gb memory @ 2400.

My only reservation on this motherboard is the fan control, having a custom speed interval setting is a joke, so I had to set all fans to manual speed.

One reviewer indicated that the Killer NIC causes memory leak, using performance monitor and FileMonitor for hours of use, I can confirm that the Killer NIC and it's software did not cause any issues whatsoever.

If you're looking for a solid overclocking, future proof motherboard then this is an excellent choice.

So when you buy this board, it is advertised as Ultra Durable and the cover has an image of the motherboard all coated in a layer of snow, indicating that this motherboard is probably going to last you a long time and/or good for liquid nitrogen overclocking.

It turns out it didn’t even beat a rainstorm and didn’t hold out for one month before it start having weird glitches and issues.

After much troubleshooting with Gigabyte tech support (and to Gigabyte’s credit, their support guy Eddie Zheng always promptly replied back to my emails) I’ve come to the ultimate determination that all of my issues that started after a nasty storm and power outage in our area was directly due to the Gigabyte Z97 motherboard itself.

Since that time I have purchased and replaced my power strip/ surge protector with a brand new Monster capable of withstanding nearly 5000 Joules , and got a new voltage regulator (APC Line-R 1200) and swapped out my PSU with a brand new unit. Therefore the issues are isolated to this motherboard itself, and due to the fact that these symptoms all started happening after the recent rainstorms, there is probable cause that the Gigabyte did not even withstand the trials and adversities of a mere thunderstorm.

After the storm I noticed the following issues:

1) Some versions of Seagate’s external USB Harddrive will no longer “power up” during the computer bootup process. If you leave the USB drive plugged into the usb port of the motherboard, then the next day you turn on the computer, it will not “wake up” the usb drive. I contacted Seagate and used their diagnostic tools to determine this was not an issue with the drive. I also tested this same drive on a different desktop computer and noticed no issues whatsoever.
