Some games will run fine with Ultra settings enabled and if not then the GPU can run mid-high to high settings with good frame rates.

> My thoughts
This R9 270x is well worth my $206 spent. I thought of the Powercolor Devil version, and the Sapphire Toxic edition, but they were priced at $230 and $250 respectively. The Asus DirectCU II version performs similarly, but the plate that holds the fans and covers the heat sinks did not fully cover the PCB , making it look a little awkward. You may have a different opinion though.

> What about the other R9 270x -es ?
Basically, in terms of performance, not cooling and sound, all R9 270x performs the same. AMD makes the reference design and GPU chip, while Manufacturers such as Asus and Gigabyte designs cooling systems and sells the Graphics Cards to us. Some of them are factory overclocked, but it's no different than you doing it yourself. You can do it for free with GPU overclocking software such as MSI afterburner.

After reading some revies and watching some videos, I decided to get the Gigabyte R9 270x since it is cool and quiet, all at a low price.

> Similar performance at a lower price ?
Actually, the HD 7870 is practically the same thing. AMD rebranded the R9 270x and added some software that would supposedly help in games. If you would like to get similar performance at a lower price, you can get the R9 270. The R9 270x is basically a overclocked R9 270, but most R9 270x -es have better cooling systems from Manufactuers.

> Nvidia counterpart ?
The R9 270x is somewhere in between the GTX 660 and the GTX 760 , but leaning closer to the GTX 760. The GTX 660 costs around the same price, but performs worst. The GTX 760 costs $250+ and performs only slightly better in most games. But of course, Nvidia cards offer PhysX which adds nicer looking explosions, clothes, and smoke to certain games.

I replaced my aging HD 5770 with this card. So far this has been an awesome choice! When playing Battlefield 4 multiplayer I get 50-60 FPS while playing the game on max settings without any issues and minimal fan noise. My system is a couple years old and completely stock, I'm running on:
QuadCore AMD Phenom II X4 920, 2.8GHz
8GB DDR2 400Mhz Memory
Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H
Radeon R9 270X GV-R927XOC-2GD 2GB GDDR5

This is a huge card, measure your case to make sure it will fit!

In case you are wondering, the card does come with 2 molex to 6pin PCIE adapters. You should probably refrain from using them and buy an upgraded power supply if your current one does not already have these connectors. The card requires 2 6pin PCIE power plugs to run, so be SURE you have plenty of power (600w+ SLI ready power supply) to feed this beast!

I have to say as a die hard Nvidia guy for the past 13 years I was getting tired of my friends using single AMD cards and out performing my Dual Nvidia cards. So I have officially jumped ship to the AMD world. Out of the box the card was easy to install took about 3 mins. Had the drivers installed in about 5 mins. After a reboot AMD gaming app found BF4 configured the video and I was in my Apache making life hard on people with in 15 mins of opening the box. AMD has done there homework and now I am a believer in AMD. The crazy thing is this is a mid range card that was super cheap and easy. I was really surprise how simple and easy the replacement was.

Pros: Easy to install and configure for gaming.
Over Clocking is available even though I doubt I will even use it.
Cooling for this GPU is very quiet. I like a quiet machine

Cons: Its a big A$$ card so measure twice and install once.

Thank you AMD for making a card I can proudly say I have to everyone!

Great card, have maxed out just about every game I throw at it with solid a solid Fps. I was amazed by how large the card was and by the fact that it is equipped with three fans, but it fits just fine in my case and runs quite. No complaints from this guy.

Upgrading from a 6870 and I am very pleased did a lot of reading and studying before making the purchase. This card performs as advertised and gives nice bang for the buck. Stays very cool even overclocked and scales pretty good with the OC very stable card can hear the fans hum from time to time. Very happy with the card sure it is not a r9 290 but I got what I paid for and am pleased with the performance and price. Will purchase another for sli when the prices come back down.

Two weeks now playing with the 270x and it is an amazing video card for a nice price.... its a big video card, so i recommend check out your internal space. On desktop runs cold and quiet, 29ºc and no noise. When I'm playing Bf4 ultra setting it goes 45ºc max.

I do recommend this gigabyte card for every gaming player.

Temperatures: COOL
- This card stays under 50C at all times, and hits a maximum of 50C during heavy gameplay. Stays ridiculously cool. The three fans and heatsinks are way overkill. It stays so cool that the fans are quiet and you can barely hear it.

Noise level: LOW
- Due to this card having a mega-heatsink and 3 fans, it stays cool all the time, and therefore the fans are less than a whisper. Even during gameplay you might barely hear the fans kick in.

Performance: DECENT
- On maximum settings (extreme + anti-aliasing) at 1080p, Starcraft II gets anywhere from 40-140 FPS depending on the units. On average, it stays between 60-70FPS.
- The 3D passmark rating for this card is 4905, which is significantly above what is listed for the r9 270x (listed as 4500, I believe).
- The 2D passmark rating was above 1000 (which is apparently above a GTX 980? strange).

You can definitely game on this. I got this one because it gets you the best bang-for-your-buck. Also, the GTX 970 is totally out of stock currently. But if you can get a GTX 970 now for $300, skip this one.
