Holy am i impressed.

In addition, the installed cooler is very quite and cannot be heard over my already quite case fans when the card is idle.

As a result of the first point, the card runs VERY cool.

Installed last night and so far performing flawlessly. The factory overclock is very nice and my card rarely hit 100% load while gaming on ultra high settings on 1900x1200. FPS stayed well above 60 the whole time. In addition, the installed cooler is very quite and cannot be heard over my already quite case fans when the card is idle. At near 100% load, the noise does become audible, but isn't harsh or all that much louder than idle conditions. My temperatures never exceeded 58degC.

Gigabyte overclocking software is simple to use and I was able to get an extra 100MHz to the base clock and 50MHz to the memory without a problem. The monitoring software is easy to use as well.

Card dimensions are 12.3"L x 5.1"H x 1.7"W.

Pros:
- Comes with a backplate
- Features Gigabytes Ultra-Durable design
- 600w cooler
- 8-pin and 6-pin power connection for greater overclocking headroom (reference design is two 6-pin)
- Low power draw (manufacturer recommends 550w minimum power supply), which means you can now do SLI without having a monster PSU.

Cons:
- The backplate is not a solid piece, but is beefy enough to protect the backside of the PCB
- The packaging is barebones. It protects the card well, but besides that, all you get is a little quick start quide and some power adapters. If you need to use the 4-pin molex to 6-pin or 8-pin adapters, I would strongly recommend you replace your power supply.

The card is great. Runs really well and doesn't have any issues with heat, but similar to many gtx 970 the card suffers from coil whine. I think it's probably luck of the draw to see if you get a card with low coil whine or loud coil whine. Unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones to have gotten the loud coil whine problem. At about 50% load the whine is so loud that I can hear it through my case with the side panel on a few feet away. It sounds like a buzzing noise or similar to a refrigerator compressor running. I checked to make sure it wasn't simply fan whine as someone on newegg suggested by manually turning up the fans to 90%. In game the whine would set in constantly and when game is minimized it instantly goes away due to gpu not being under load any longer, but when game is brought up again the coil whine instantly happens again. I might have just gotten unlucky but just wanted to let other people know that coil whine is an issue on gigabyte gtx 970 similar to the other brands. I have requested a replacement from amazon and will update my review.

PS. I also tried setting vsync in game to limit fps to see if that solves the problem. Sadly it didn't work :(

Since most reviewers already covered the bases, I'll just elaborate on a few points and try to keep it brief but informative.

Performance:

I purchased this card with the intention of handling 1080p flawlessly and eventually buying a second one to make the jump to 120/144hz 1440p. It delivered on stage one of that plan.

I tested it on a heavily modded Skyrim, one that is modded to the point of barely scraping by without exceeding the RAM limits of the software and crashing, and I was able to make my character run at 1000% speed through the world without ever dropping below 65 FPS. The mods are so heavy, some areas with incredibly dense grass would bring my 770 Classified to its knees and drop it to ~30 FPS. The 970 handled it with ease, barely heating up in the process.

In fact, nothing I've tried at 1080p yet has been slowed down by the GPU, no matter the settings.

This card is THE card for flawless 1080p gameplay on max settings. That is for those of us who are sticklers for max game settings and flawless performance, as most people would consider this card overkill for 1080p. There are few games that would challenge this card at 1080, those being names like Crysis 3, Metro Last Light, and Shadows of Mordor. Still, they would maintain playable frame rates at all times, and would probably rarely drop below 60.

Pros:

- With regards to performance-per-dollar and performance-per-watt, this card is an absolute monster. It is essentially a more efficient 780 ti for $400 less. It can be overclocked to beat its big brother, the 980. In my opinion, this is currently the overall best card on the market.

Pretty awesome value for a videocard. Benchmarks beat out a 780ti while costing $150-200 less. One of the coolest features of this card is "Dynamic Super Resolution" (DSR), a feature you can turn on in the nVidia control panel that is able to leverage the card's massive horsepower in less-demanding games. One thing that always turned me off about upgrading videocards was that unless you were playing the latest and greatest games, you would not be getting an actual return on your investment because the software could not leverage the horsepower built into your GPU. However, with DSR, you can play older games at much higher resolutions and downsample to your screen resolution, fully utilizing the GPU power to get some amazing-looking easily-adjustable brute force anti-aliasing. For the other end of the spectrum, nVidia's new MFAA is a great way to squeeze better visuals out of your games in a computationally efficient way. Otherwise, the card is wonderfully silent with great thermals and power consumption. Make sure you measure your case to ensure that the triple-fan cooler will fit.
