At first I was hesitant about purchasing this mouse. I have been using Razer's all my life (Naga, Mamba, DA) but felt the software for Razer was lacking especially in regards to the macros and it glitching up my computer quite a few times. So after calling Gigabyte to ensure compatibility, I decided to pull the trigger. This is a really great mouse for me. I like how there are several profiles you can create depending on the game you are playing. The DPS switch is easy to reach when going from run and gun to sniping. The left and right clicks and scroll wheel still feel bouncy and operational (even after I abused it by spam clicking). The lights are not as flashy but is enough to look cool. I tried the different weights and base and though I feel the slight difference, I am not a professional gamer and cannot take advantage of it though I feel those who are really good at gaming will benefit from it. One thing to note, when putting in the weights, the rubber weight holder was loose. Simply push it back in, no biggie. The software that links to the mouse is great. Very easy to program macros and has the versatility (unlock razer's software but I think Logitech G700 can do something similar tho I dont like how the Logitech feels has such a high arch) to allow you to program anything you need without being banned from games (I think the onboard mouse memory isn't detected vs let's say autohotkey). The feel of the mouse is weird at first because the arch of the mouse is not really rounded and the rubber grip fins on the side feel a bit sharp but you get used to it though I do feel this is more of a deathgrip mouse than a palming mouse. The braided wire is a nice touch and I like it better than plastic for its durability.Read more ›

Build Quality

Razer: Mice chassis are cheap plastic. The left / right buttons have high rate of failure (in four years I've been through three and I take very good care of my stuff) and poor tactile feedback.

This: Gigabyte is a manufacturer known for using quality build components (they make great motherboards). I already have the Aivia keyboard from them, which is decent, so I figured I'd get a matching mouse.

I haven't owned this mouse for a long duration of time so I can't comment on longevity, but the mouse feels sturdy and I love the natural rubber sides. Good grip, adjustable weight. Only cheap-feeling part is the DPI button in the middle - made out of the same plastic that Razer mice use.

It's worth noting that this Krypton mouse has a swappable bottom chassis part, so picky players can adjust the feet for different surfaces or even styles of play.

Sensor Quality

This mouse is based on a newly revised sensor so no old tech. It "feels" better than midrange Razer mice which I believe are still based on older sensor revisions. Extremely high DPI, extremely responsive even on poor moussing surfaces. I play Counter Strike, Battlefield 3 and League of Legends. My game has improved since using this mouse. Anecdotal, I know, but I think gamers will be pleased with this. I'm also an Illustrator junkie and this mouse gives me the precision I demand when drafting or drawing.

Software

Razer: If you buy a Razer mouse, you'll be treated to a large "80 MB of your RAM goodbye" software / driver package that integrates with the everywhere cloud. For what? Who the hell knows? Synapse became a new reason to avoid Razer, IMO. I don't want to log into my mouse drivers. Just store the settings ON THE DEVICE!

Gigabyte, of course is known for motherboards and graphics processing units. I have both, and both have been proven to be reliable. I believe there were high hopes for this mouse, but also feel Gigabyte forgot about it and went back to producing great motherboards and gpu's.
When you first take the unit out of the box, you'll notice that it has the speed base. The speed base rips up a mouse pad and causes friction. It took me about 30 seconds of ripping up my mouse pad to see that I wasn't going to use it.
The other base works fine. There were a bunch of weights that were included, and there were many of them.
I then googled "Gigabyte, Aivia, Krypton". I was taken to a gigabytedotus site. There wasn't a utitlity icon, so it didn't allow me to download the driver, only the firmware. I then phoned support, and the customer support rep told me I should go to gigabytedotcom and then search for "Aivia, Krypton". It may seem silly, but I thought I could help someone else with this. I had to then reinstall the firmware because the mouse was acting buggy. Everything is working well now. Just wanted to pass on my findings to other potential customers.

Update (6 month review)- I had a rage moment while playing BF4, and actually threw the mouse on the floor and then stomped on it. I don't recommend trying this, but I have to admit the mouse wasn't in the least affected. I then tried pulling up the clicking part full force, and couldn't seem to break it. This kind of enraged me. When I calmed down, I used the mouse and everything worked perfectly. I'm getting better at BF4, and the mouse still works like a champ. I wish Gigabyte was there to film me trying to bust it to prove the durability of this darn mouse. Definitely underrated, and under advertised. Durable as heck.
