I have been building, fixing, using computers almost as soon as personal computers became available. I have owned and operated as many as 8 computers at one time at home. I started looking for a full computer in a slate/tablet design several years ago, and could never find the right fit until I came across the Gigabyte Tablet. When I saw it came with Windows 8 with a 500GB hdrive, for the price, I just couldn't pass it up. It arrived quickly, and while I was excited at getting this tablet I was dreading the set up of all the software I usually use, including Office, and Roxio, etc. One of the reasons I gave it the five stars is that loading up this computer and setting it up for my use was ABSOLUTELY the easiest I ever experienced without one hang-up.
After it was set up I immediately went to work, and I found the Windows 8 very useful. I have not had one problem with my tablet and as getting stuff done. Normally I use a wireless keyboard and mouse, but the other day I took just the tablet with the USB keyboard built in the case and with the onboard mouse I was able to produce easily.
It does weigh more than a tablet but for me that isn't an issue. I find the screen is responsive even with a protective cover. I have a laptop, desktop, IPad, and a 7" mini-laptop, and overall I would say the Gigabyte with its 500GB hdrive and USB and SD slots is the most versatile and mobile.

This tablet is replacing my laptop as my primary computer. I do not use the $180 docking station; the tablet connects nicely to external monitor and keyboard/mouse combo. The dual 1.1 MHz processors are adequate. (Think two small outboard engines on a boat. They are not the fastest but they will get you there and not bog down.) Order the model with 2 gb ram then visit crucial.com for their 8 gb memory expansion. This significantly improves the performance.
The included case and keyboard allow tablet to function similar to laptop. The tablet has integrated mouse that takes a little getting used to; but you soon will master it. Other than size, this tablet easily replaces my laptop.
Bottom line: if you are looking for tablet that can also replace laptop, this is it.

I bought this with high hopes, as I am on a constant quest to find the perfect road warrior tablet. First off, this is a great idea - why not have all the connections you find on a desktop around the bezel in a tablet? In that respect this tablet is five stars. The issues, however, soon become apparent. The screen is horrible; 10-15 degrees off center and the screen is unreadable. If I am on an airplane that might be a good thing (the person sitting next to you will be unable to look at what you are doing), but sitting in my living room it was very difficult to deal with. The processor was a smidgen better than the atom processors, but not by much. The hard drive was ridiculously slow. WIFI worked good, as did the integrated card readers. Below is a quick highlight of the pros and cons.

Pro
+built-in LAN port
+built-in SD card reader
+Celeron processor slightly better than the older Atom processors
+Upgradable Ram and hard drive (you can undo the back and upgrade RAM to 4GB, install your own SS hard drive
+comes with a software on/off button on the desktop (downloadable from the Gigabyte site, if you want it on your current computer)

Con
-screen unreadable at anything but directly looking at it
-"ghost" taps periodically occur, even when the tablet is not being touched
-conventional 500GB hard drive, which is constantly working and degrading battery life
-ports not well protected with covers; sand and dust can easily enter the interior of the tablet
-slow slow slow

I had to send this back, as the issues with the device far outweighed the benefits.

If you are seeking an easy to use tablet for small children and games I do not suggest. If you are not used to the windows 8 format and don't wish to learn a new format I do not suggest. If these don't apply to you I highly suggest. This tablet is great for people who are serious about using computers.

This slate gets a lot of bad reviews but I honestly love it. both my husband and I have had ours for 1 year. Mine is currently being repaired by Gigabyte due to a screen problem that started about 4 months ago. The screen must have excess internal pressure on it, causing it to get activated in the same spots around the perimeter repeatedly, taking control of the screen. Aside from that, I love the flexibility of the tablet. I bought a Logitech K400 Wireless Keyboard with MultiTouch Mouse Pad and use this slate as my Home Theater PC (HTPC) so I can even travel with my HTPC.

The high-lights: hardwired internet with RJ-45 for us non-WIFI folks who want faster and more secure connections, HDMI out, the optional multimedia dock has a DVD player, built-in SD card reader, Windows OS that allows full-sized programs to run without issue, keyboard case has USB keyboard (not wireless that will drain battery)

The downfalls (aside from my screen issue): battery drains rapidly and necessitates purchasing the extended battery, which necessitates using one of the 2 the Gigabyte S1080 series 'hollow bottom' cases.

Upgrades I chose to purchase: max RAM (definitely needed), HuaWei EM820W 3.5G modem card but haven't bought a plan with any of the wireless carriers yet (I just use free WIFI available at most hotels and restaurants), several multimedia docks (Gigabyte D1080) for the different rooms i frequently use my slate (kitchen for cooking, office, theater).

Recommendation: This is basically a small laptop if you buy all the add-ons like I did. It's may be more cost-effective and easier to just buy a laptop tho, and this thing weighs more than smaller laptops (5 pounds) anyway.
