Charlie and his brother Eddie Palmieri formed a dynasty that left an invaluable impression on contemporary music. Born in Manhattan to Puerto Rican parents and influenced by their roots, the brothers knew how to capture the most representative and traditional elements of their heritage in their music. The King of the Ivories") because of his dexterity on the piano- also gained fame as an arranger and orchestra director, having directed such consecrated figures as Noro Morales, Xavier Cugat, and Maestro Tito Puente, among others. He experimented with several musical styles, but preferred jazz, salsa, and anything tropical: the pachanga, son, montuno, mambo, bolero, and guajira. His versatility enriched and enlivened the popular music scene. Recognized as a pioneer of salsa music, he left the legacy of his discography, which contains more than 16 albums that were validated by resounding hits and countless awards. His brilliant career sadly ended with his death on September 12, 1988. He was 72.
CHARLIE PALMIERI

This Charlie Palmieri's 1972 recording,"El Gigante Del Teclado", is a "salsa" masterpiece containing the great hits: La Hija De Lola, La LLave Y El Candado, Sedante De Rhumba, and El Mundo Està Bièn-El Loco Soy Yo. The singer was Vitìn Avilès, Charlie's main vocalist throughout his "salsa" years. Somewhat of a trivia matter, is the fact that teaming up with Adalberto Santiago and Eladio Peguero "Yayo El Indio" on the chorus, was the great, Tito Puente.

This one is so good...it's punishing! "El Pan Sobao", "La Hija de Lola", every tune on here, amazing! Charlie Palmieri has long been known as the King of salsa piano...lesser known is his prowess on organ...if you don't believe me just listen..."Que se Vaya" shows what he can do playing organ in a Latin beat context...Wow! Anything Charlie Palmieri recorded on Alegre records is a must have...check out also Adelante Gigante and Hay Que Estar en Algo.

Fantastic work by the eldest Palmieri.,

With Vitin Aviles on vocals, Alegre records released this gem of an album in 1972. Charlie is really a joy to listen to on piano especially on "La Hija De Lola" (organ in this particular case) a hit in my view and in "Sedante de la Rhumba" he has a fine piano solo. "La Llave y El Candado" is a different, but great version of this song that picks up quite quickly, after about a minute to be precise. As i have said earlier, Charlie did not have to envy his brother since he was a fantastic musician and leader. This album is proof of this, as it has not one single filler track on it. at times, it is more has more "swing" and somewhat of a jazzy sound than hard-hitting salsa, nonetheless, a great pleasure to listen to. I definitely recommend this one.
