5.0 out of 5 stars A Shame how great this album is...
After nearly 18 years of silence, Flesh For Lulu has returned in a big way. Gone are most of the new wave-goth trappings that concealed the punk/rock animals hiding beneath the surface. Back in high school, I was a big fan of Flesh for Lulu because I thought they had a knack for hooks, a pop sensibility, that made them stand out above their peers, i.e. Gene Loves Jezebel...

2.0 out of 5 stars "Lost" album finally released.
Nick Marsh and Rocco formed Gigantic in 1996, recruiting Dave Blair on bass and Al Fletcher on drums. This is a re-release of Gigantic's 1st and only album from 1996. Apparently it's being released as "Flesh For Lulu" to help potential sales. In truth, it sounds very little like FFL. The music is energetic but bland and forgettable pop/rock.

Gene Loves Jezebel. Their big album Long Live the New Flesh was nothing if not consistent and catchy, even if suffering from over-production and mechanical drums. Their follow-up "Decline and Fall" started out great but lost my interest. Too thin and inconsistent. Flesh for Lulu must have been listening to a lot of music since then because "Gigantic" sounds like they have absorbed every good rock sound that has come along since 1987 (maybe even 1977), blended it all together and churned out 13 great songs that capture it all. That almost every song is equally memorable is mind-blowing these days. Nick Marsh's vocals are better than they have ever been on recording...at times Ian Astbury, Johnny Rotten, Greg Dulli, James Hall, Bono...just amazing. It's such a shame that this great rock album will be completely overlooked by the critics and the masses. If you read this, buy it!!!
