Book Description

November 15, 2002
Giggle Time is a step-by-step program for parents, teachers and other professionals to help develop the non-verbal, verbal and social reciprocity skills of children with autism. It describes in accessible detail how to communicate with children with autism and gives clear instructions on "how to" techniques for developing language skills. Specifically addressing developmental delays, Giggle Time helps to lay the necessary framework for future language growth by turning the actions the child initiates into interactions with meaning. This is a user-friendly guide, packed full of fun and child-centered exercises that can be carried out at home or in the classroom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not complete, but still useful, March 20, 2004

This review is from: Giggle Time - Establishing the Social Connection: A Program to Develop the Communication Skills of Children With Autism, Asperger Syndrome and Pdd (Paperback)
Contrary to the impression its packaging may give, this book doesn't present anything like a complete guide to developing communication skills for children with autism. Instead, what it describes is one technique to build simple interactive games to help begin communication with children with limited language.

However, this can be valuable for many children, and the book is clear and helpfully illustrated with photo examples of real-life games. So I'd recommend it on that basis.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book!, May 2, 2009

I bought this book years ago and passed it on to another mom. It is a great way to open communication with your child who has a speech delay. I like the approach because it is different than other forms of therapy that almost create a pavlovian response. This technique helps your child to respond to you socially in THEIR OWN way, which I think is more beneficial. It is not a cure all, there are many aspects to treating a child with developmental delays, but I think it is a must in any treatment regimin.
