5.0 out of 5 stars Princesses of All Ages!

I first read Gigi to one my grand daughters, all 4 of them are princesses. The story and its content were just precious! I even related to many parts of the story myself...those who know the Lord as the King of Kings can smile with pure joy, knowing they are a true princess of the richest King of all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother!
I was disappointed with the content. The pictures are delightful, and for that reason only, it got 2 stars. I found the story line thin, when in fact, the truth that we are ALL children of the King is really quite profound. Gigi is completely absorbed with herself - not a worthy role model. This is not because we don't suffer the same, but because she does not move...

I was disappointed with the content. The pictures are delightful, and for that reason only, it got 2 stars. I found the story line thin, when in fact, the truth that we are ALL children of the King is really quite profound. Gigi is completely absorbed with herself - not a worthy role model. This is not because we don't suffer the same, but because she does not move from that position and it is not addressed or reinforced by anyone else in her life. Her father abdicates from the discussion, her mother gives her a one liner and her friend she considers her "subject". I thought Gigi was quite horrid!

I even related to many parts of the story myself...those who know the Lord as the King of Kings can smile with pure joy, knowing they are a true princess of the richest King of all.

The illustrations by Meredith Johnson were priceless! Author Sheila Walsh is a brilliant, tender and passionate woman who loves the Lord and delights princesses all over the world through Women of Faith, her CD's and her books. Thank You Sheila

The book was perfect when Twin Oaks Church in San Jose, CA hosted a Mother-Daughter event entitled "All of God's Princesses"... Granny "O" (Granny Ora Oaks) came and read the story to all. And it was loved by all princesses, young & old, big & little, all shapes and sizes! Several Gigi books became the door prizes!

I'll encourage anyone to read this sweet little book of reality on every level... or incorporate it into a Princess Event in your sphere of influence. It is like sipping a cup of Chamomile Tea with an endless smile on your face!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pink-loving princesses will love it!, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Gigi, God's Little Princess (Hardcover)
What's not to love about a curly-haired, freckle-faced "princess" with an attitude? Gigi had known from the day she was born that she was a princess-although she wasn't exactly sure why. With no castle or royal treasures, she didn't live like a princess. She had no subjects-even her cat didn't obey her. Yet, through this little story, Gigi learns that it is not the castle or the crown that makes a princess, but the declaration of the King-"you are God's little princess."

This simple message of belonging to "the greatest King of all" was created by Christian communicator, singer, and songwriter Sheila Walsh. Pink-loving princesses will love the whimsical illustrations by Meredith Johnson. Although royals of all ages may enjoy Gigi and her quest, its simple story line is probably geared to the youngest princesses who lay in wait for a bedtime story and a sweet reminder of God's gracious love. -- Susan Hammond, Christian Book Previews.com

2.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait to read the ending...., December 27, 2005

This review is from: Gigi, God's Little Princess (Hardcover)
My 4-year-old daughter received this book - it was her gift she opened on Christmas eve. We sat by the lighted Christmas tree and fire and she settled into my lap for a goodread. The illustrations ARE precious, as other reviewers have said. The story started off beautifully - very believable for a little girl. We got to the part about "the King" and I got intrigued as to how the writer would explain this - then the book ended. It just ENDED. No further explanation, no further story. Just a few more pages would have turned this almost good book into possibly a great book. I am sad that it didn't make it - I had high hopes. Perhaps you might want to check it out from the library first to see what I mean. :( (I did give it 2 stars because of the sweet illustration and the beginnings of a good book.)

I have to agree with some of the other negative reviews of this book. It is cute and had potential, but the character is very self focused and I feel like the emphasis on her being a "princess" takes presidents over the much more powerful message of God being King. I think it is sadly reflective of our Christian culture being more and more focused on US as the worshipers over God the one we are suppose to be turning our eyes to. I feel like it has confused my daughter since she frequently talks about being a REAL princess because she knows God. But, I feel like in her mind she is confusing this with being dressed in a dress up dress and living in a pink castle. It just isn't how I want her to understand her relationship with God, because ultimately, that is putting the focus on HER being glorified, not really a respect for God's place in her life.

If you have a little princess at home, you will enjoy this book. It is perfect for the family who is religious. It doesn't talk a lot about religion but just enough to make it a nice story. This book would make a great baptism or first holy communion gift for all of "God's Little Princesses."

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, January 25, 2008
I have to agree with some other reviewers of this book. Gigi is pretty self-absorbed. She exhibits behavior patterns I do not want my daughter to possess. In a society that puts so much value on "self" I do not think it is wise to encourage it in a Christian children's book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eloise with a christian twist, November 21, 2009
This review is from: Gigi, God's Little Princess (Hardcover)
I just purchased this book for my niece. My daughter LOVES the Eloise books and little GiGi reminds me a lot of her. She is definitely a girlie girl and her behavior is totally in the realm of a little girl. The religious aspect is what made me purchase this over a set of Eloise books for my niece. It opens the door for further discussion as to why all of our little girls are all God's princesses. The author has left that important part of the discussion up to the parents. I think this is a selling point and not a negative part of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Story!, April 8, 2007
This review is from: Gigi, God's Little Princess (Hardcover)
This is a great book!!! My daughter loves all of the Gigi books, but this is her favorite so far. After stating the fact that we are all children of the King of Kings at the end, it doesn't go into any details of what that means. I think this makes it even better because it allows us to have conversations with our children. My princess & I have had many great bedtime talks about this, and I love it! The book is very funny. Gigi is full of herself, but it is also a great underlying lesson about pride. Her bubble gets burst when she discovers she is indeed NOT the only princess! GREAT BOOK! Buy it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Selfish and spoiled, January 22, 2011
A Kid's Review
Gig's selfish behavior really doesn't set the kind of example I want my girls to follow. I'm not sure what the Christian message is supposed to be, but whatever it is, it got buried under all the pink fluffy trappings that apparantly make Gigi a "true princess". If you really want a great princess book for Christian girls, check out "the Princess and the Kiss" by Jennie Bishop. Now there's a princess book that has it all- adventure, love, and a great message for girls everywhere. For boys I also highly recomend "The squire and the scroll". My 9 year old loved it and it too has a great message. Happy Reading :)
