5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars for Gigli, March 10, 2006
This review is from: Gigli [Original Motion Picture Score] (Audio CD)
What a wonderful surprise this was! I was recently shopping at my local CD store and saw this on for 11 bucks. I knew the movie was crap, but since it was by John Powell, I said, why not? I'm very glad I did. It's not at all what I expected, and exceeded all my preconceived notions.
This is a mellow CD. If mellow isn't your thing, don't get it. It's as simple as that. About 10% of this CD is jazzy riffs and the last 2 minutes on the final track are an explosive and wonderful gospel choir, but the rest is all mellow acoustic guitar, mellow piano, and mellow strings. It's lovely, no other way to put it. Powell has given me another fantastic surprise score just a month or so after I bought Paycheck and was equally delighted.
Do yourself a favour and pick up this score if you're into the mellow mood stuff. It's just the thing to listen to after a long day of school or work, or if you like some background music as you're hugging your girlfriend/boyfriend. I find it at times joyous, at times moving, at all times, relaxing. A great score.
cheers
KZ

4.0 out of 5 stars Gigli - A great score but needs some more, August 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Gigli [Original Motion Picture Score] (Audio CD)
I havn't seen the movie and I don't even know what it is about. I picked the score up the other day just to hear what it sounded like. And I have to tell you, I was impressed. A mixture of your typical "jazzy" rhythms intertwined with catchy melodies played on guitar are heard throughout most of the compositions. There are a few slow tracks which arn't bad either. I was just looking for more catchy melodies and a little longer soundtrack. However, the soundtrack explodes with a gospel "chior"-ish theme at the very end. A great way to bring the CD to a close. You can do without it but if you want to try something new with a little bit of old stuck right in there, this isn't a bad CD at all. Far from it and is recommended to those film score maniacs like myself. I hope this was helpful and if it was please vote right below. Thanks and if you ordered it, enjoy like I did.

Wow! There's just no other way of putting it -- the GIGLI soundtrack brings all the magical moments of this landmark movie home to be savoured like fine Italian cuisine! If you've seen the film, you don't need me to tell you what a treasure such as this can add to ANY discerning music collection -- you've already revisited the wonders of GIGLI on your home stereo time and time again. For those who have yet to experience the movie -- and I must say, I envy you -- deprive yourself no longer by picking up this splendid soundtrack souvenir without delay, and if by chance Amazon or WalMart have the dvd in stock, pick that up too. There's never been anything quite like GIGLI, and if you follow the advice herein you'll be sure to know why!
